If we could all rely on our immune systems there'd be no need for doctors or hospitals other than for injuries, eh? I'm mid 60s and definitely notice it takes longer to bounce back from injury/sickness now than it did in my 20s, I'd much rather avoid both.
You are right, it does take a lot more to bounce back from being ill.
As a flu vaccine provider, I have heard your story many times over.
Ok, Flu Provider! lol I haven't gotten the flu in about 30 years. When I was young, I was constantly sick. Must have had about every flu on record, but never went to a doctor for that, or anything.
I worked with little kids in public schools, who had the flu including the so called 2009 epidemic. I was a Para and had to hold these sick kids sneezing, coughing, and putting their hands all over my face. Never got sick. No flu shot. Before you say I was just "lucky" there was another Para in the class who also never got a flu shot either and did not get sick from these kids. We were both over 55 years old. Luck? Besides the 4 and 5 year old "at most risK", weren't WE at risk of very seriously complications as "vulnerable old people"????? The young teachers in those classrooms got their flu shots. THEY got sick, but we Seniors staff with no Flu Shots didn't get sick. Ran ourselves ragged with all these sick kids too.
Do you think that we OLDER staff were some kind of Typhoid Marys giving it to all the little children but not getting the flu ourselves? REPEAT. It was not just ME. Explain HOW if you are exposed to the Flu up close and personal and don't get it yourself without flu shots.
Jo48-The attack rate for H1N1 is not 100% or even close. The Infection Attack Rate and Severity of 2009 Pandemic H1N1 Influenza in Hong Kong
" The overall attack rate was 10.7%, with age stratification as follows: 43.4% in persons aged 5–14 years, 15.8% in persons aged 15–19 years, 11.8% in persons aged 20–29 years, and 4%–4.6% in persons aged 30–59 years."
All too often however people think of the flu vaccine as being against "All" flus. Its a crapshoot. So you can get the flu shot, and still get the flu. But your odds year to year are probably cut in half.
Its well worth it to get the shot, but its no guarentee
Be still my heart. They are now working on a Flu Vax for ALL strains which you give LIFETIME Immunity. If you believe that can be done, I have a nice bridge I would like you to see too,

Much the same was said about those who believed the Wright brothers would fly.
