The only way you can be a monopoly in a free market is to be drastically better than everyone else.
Government intervention creates monopolies. Free markets destroy them.
And if you had a great idea, say steam power or electricity or the wheel or any number of technology, you can easily be drastically better than everyone. You can viciously and violently surpress someone stealing or taking your idea and technology.

Yep. Public or private, humans will figure out how to rig the game. I just prefer a system where we can vote, rather than outspend in order to enact change. However, our American campaign laws that favors political contributions as free speech are quickly eroding that.
