All this to make insurance companies rich. There must have been a big lobby on capital hill with a lot of kick-backs.
Of course. When you suddenly have several million new customers in your risk pool, it's a boon for profits and stock prices. That the public option was pretty much DOA and excluded from the final version of the bill should tell you how much influence the health insurance companies had.
The newly-Republican controlled house is to vote on complete repeal of Obamacrap sometime this next week.
I just signed up to avoid the penalty, which can be substantial if it amounts to up to 2% of income.
It's absolutely unsustainable, and if they manage to remove the requirement that everyone purchase so-called "health" insurance, I plan to get out and tell them where they can put it. I'm only 18 months away from Medicare, but that's probably even worse nowadays than Obamacrap. The lies that were told about being able to keep your current plan were absolutely blatant. I plan to talk to my accountant yet again.

They should have just gone with Single payer, but they mistakenly thought doing so would result in non stop GOP obstruction, making it difficult to get the plan in place, and functioning......

The biggest problem with "insurance" is that it ADDS to the cost.
You can never cut costs for health care when you add a pool of "investors" who get dividends from the machinations of the insurance bureaucracy.

Personally, I prefer that government get entirely out of the health care system - licensing, etc.
