Must be because our education system sucks as badly as the right wing constantly whines about.

W is right, its not the universities in this country that suck, its the public primary education system that sucks. the teachers tend to be glorified baby sitters.

You have your issues with drugs and an overemphasis on sports, but for the most part the education is good. The issues with inner city schools are not going to change with "school choice". A kid living in the projects who doesn't know his dad, with a drug dealer as a role model, isn't going to become an Engineer.
granted there are issues at public schools that need to be addressed beyond the lousy administration, but those problems are happening at every primary school across the country regardless of location.

the biggest problem with the public school system in the US is far too much administration at all levels, and not enough teachers. where we need to cut the education department funding is in how many layers of administration there are, mostly at the federal level, but even the state level can use some administration house cleaning.

Yes! Far too much of the resources go to administration and not enough to classrooms.

I would take what Dr. Kaku says with a grain of salt. This is the same guy who suggests
that there are other civilizations in the universe more advanced:

You do have a better choice . Save up enough to pay to move to a better district or to send your kids to a private school. Why are you demanding the Government give you HAND OUTS for better education . Isn't paying for stuff yourself what all you right wingers are always whining about?

perhaps you need to open your mind up? understand that our civilization has been around for only 6000 years, and look where we are right now. we have cracked the math for warp drive for instance, along with many other things. all it would take now is the development of the right technology, and we could be visiting new star systems. and given that the universe is 13.5 billion years old, dont you think that it is very possible that there are indeed more advanced civilizations than ours in this galaxy? given what we have accomplished in 6000 years, imagine what we could accomplish in the next 6000 years, and then realize that there could very well be civilizations that are at least twice our age.

We have to look at the long term effect on our country. We clearly don't have the same middle class manufacturing jobs that we used to be our mainstay, but supposedly we make up for that by shifting to an information and technology based economy.

But if we don't have the scientists, how do we pull that off? Is that going to be outsourced as well?

This is nothing but a vast generalization. There are many school systems doing a very good job while others do a very poor job. If I had the opportunity to send my daughter to a private or charter school I wouldn't do it.

Since school vouchers would come from money already taxed it would certainly give the parent a right to change scools

Both my son and I have EE degrees. We have both done very well in the US. The problem is that states have pulled funding from the state university systems and those institutions seek out foreign, mostly Chinese, students who pay top dollar to attend. We are selling our seed corn.

I suspect you are being sarcastic (at least I certainly hope so!), but just in case anyone takes this seriously, I will point out that you've committed the logical fallacy of ad hominem. Even if Dr. Kaku were a complete idiot, it could still be the case that he has the correct view on this issue, so nothing is gained by attacking the man - you need to address the argument itself.

But I suspect you already know that, and are just having some fun here.
