Married couples enjoy a lot of legal rights denied to unmarried couples. Yes, there are rights that come from marriage.
They are not rights, they are privilidges granted by government. Look up the definition of a right. Government does not grant rights. Rights are automatic at birth.
Judges are not congress. Judges have the job of determining the constitutionality of laws passed by states.
These judges have ruled overwhelmingly that bans on same sex marriage violate the 14th amendment equal protection clause.
But I suppose YOU know more than 25+ judges about the constitution. Maybe you should write them and offer to educate them.
Horsehockey! As little as ten years ago, the same judges would not have even entertained the idea that the 14th applies to gay marriage. It would have had no chance whatsoever. "Constitutionality" has more to do with public opinion than it does with some esoteric principles being revealed by men and women in black robes. Opinion in Alabama apparently has not evolved sufficiently.
You are incorrect. No one gets their rights because they are married.
A whole slew of legal rights are conferred upon marriage.
For instance, ordinarily, only my immediate family members (lineal descendants/antecedents and siblings) have the legal right to sue for wrongful death in a court of law should I be murdered or negligently/recklessly killed at the hands of another. Marriage gives that right to one's legal spouse.
That's one legal right people get when they are legally married.
No one is redefining marriage any more than allowing women and blacks to vote redefined the word voter. Get over it.
That is the WORST analogy EVER! Marriage has been defined as between one man and one woman since the dawn of time. Even the constitution does not define a "voter."
Why is it so hard for proponents of gay marriage to just admit they want to redefine a core tradition of western society instead of using buzz words like "equality" when they are not arguing for polygamy or any other forms of marriage?
It's not a child...it's a choice....
It's not a fundamental change to the core structure of the family...it's equality....
YES THEY ARE. Are you so uninformed that you haven't heard the marriage cake making debacle? answer- Yes you are. Yet again.

I'll take YOUR word for it on the finger part but I never said gays are evil. That's your sick twisted agenda because you are unable to seek the truth so you falsely testify about others beliefs. Pathetic but not surprising.

Over 14 years ago the supreme court ruled that the 14th DOES apply to marriage laws. Does public opinion matter? yep. But it does change the meaning of the constitution? nope.
