The Germany of today is an entirely different nation that the Germany of the mid 20th century. This Germany does not owe the world anything. Those debts have been paid.

It's as different from Nazi Germany as Russia is from the Soviet Union. Still, Russia is the SU's legal successor, with all the pros and cons.

And according to those researchers the debts have not been paid, because the Kohl government used tricks to deliberately get around that.

I guess Greece will just need to suck it up and fix itself.

Little sympathy for Greek woes in eurozone's poorer nations

Warsaw (AFP) - After painful market reforms and austerity under their belts, the poorer ex-communist nations of the eurozone have little sympathy for Greece's latest debt woes -- with some even insisting the bloc could survive a "Grexit".

Germany will never be allowed to forget the Nazi era in our lifetime. Napoleon was considered the Monster in his day by his opponents. Of course, he did not attempt to destroy Jews only Royalists.

What Hitler did against the Jews was straight up stupid. Tho; had he just went after the Hasidic ones; gave them a chance to convert to another religion 1st BEFORE killing them and left the "regular" Jewish people alone, he'd probably wouldn't have had such a bad rep in 2015. Even many "normal" Jews DON'T like the Hasidic kind.

.

I doesn't really matter, Germany is still paying reparations to Israel, so time has nothing to do with the responsibility !!

Russia is a lot more similar to the USSR than Germany is to Nazi Germany.

Putin is basically a Soviet fan girl. He would love to have lead the USSR and would happily bring it back if he thought he could get away with it. Nazi Germany existed for just over a decade; the Soviet Union existed for 70 years and had a significantly larger impact on the world than Germany did. I know some would disagree, but Hitler only held the spot light for one decade. The Soviets were a dominant player for forty years after WWII ended.

Germany has a sad history as well. It's relatively young, only forming as a united state in the latter half of the 19th century, getting to powerful for it's own good and biting off more than it could chew during WWI, then suffering more than any nation in Europe did after WWI ended. Hitler brought it back, only to have the nation largely reduced to rubble and be split in half after WWII and be left in a constant state of civil tension between the East and the West for the next 40 years.

Point is, Germany is ideologically different from the Nazis anymore. Russia... it really hasn't changed much. Which is reasonable. Nazi Germany fell in 1945, the Soviet Union fell in 1991. Many people are alive to remember the fall of the Soviet Union; few are left who truly remember the fall of Nazi Germany.

Germany doesn't owe anyone ****.

Hitler pretty much destroyed Germany so he pissed off lots of his people in 1945. Stalin was a hero in 1945 so the Russians didn't really hate him IMHO.

The Russians didn't mind him. Ukranians... ehh.

I read somewhere that apparently 60% or so of Russians would vote for Stalin if he ran again today. I guess I don't know a lot about Stalin aside from his hefty genocide, him being only about 5'6'', and his guards were so scared of him that when he had a stroke, they waited for hours before calling for help because they were afraid of acting without orders.

I don't know what kind of leader Stalin was as viewed from his people (the ones he didn't kill or starve). But they obviously don't view him the way people view Hitler. I don't think anyone does. Because rather or not we like to admit it, he was kind of the one who be Hitler, not us.

Germany did the reforms most need to do in the 9 1990. many of those nations laughed at them then but not laughing now. Reunifcation was difficult but the Germans worked thru it.
