ALL Greeks, rich and poor have been avoiding taxes for decades. It became the national sport of Greece. The Greek establishment "understood" it and Greece lived with that as a given fact.
The problem is with this lefty government. Before elections they promised they will solve the crisis if elected (unlike the past government which seccumbed to Germany's "dictate"). Well, people voted them in office and now they seem to be in trouble. Talk comes cheap. The solution they promised (backed by tough talk) is not really there. What to do now?
The only way left for Greece is ditching the Euro and going back to what they were.
Funny thing, a lot of Conservatives here also brag about their ability to avoid taxes, and game the system. Then they scream about how the US is becoming like Greece.
Funny as heck if it wasn't so damaging to our country.
Because it's a bald faced attempt to get another country 70 years after the fact to use someone else's money to pay for their socialism.
Greece put itself into that position. Not up to another country to rescue it. If I was a member of the European Union, I would vote remove Greece from the union, they go back to the drachma and watch it instantly tank and I wouldn't care.
70 years after israel is still collecting money from Germany and France ?

Yes,let Germany pay reparation to Grece first and then Grece can leave the EU,UK is also about to leave the EU,several nationalist parties in West Europe have promised to leave the EU if elected .
With or without the EU life goes on,Grece is not going to disappear.
The Germany of today is an entirely different nation that the Germany of the mid 20th century. This Germany does not owe the world anything. Those debts have been paid.

Funny how they suddenly remember their "moral obligation" to ask well over half a century later when they need the cash.
Also, it's very convenient that Greece has no moral obligation to create a culture of fiscal responsibility where taxes are appropriately collected, corruption is prosecuted, and people are set up to be productive rather than leech off of Germany's economy.
