Putting aside the fact that the investigation took no action against the article, it is amusing watching the religious reactionaries spin around in frustration at having their ability to engage in unchecked dominionism curtailed. But at the same time it is sad to realize that their frustration stems from an innate inability to respect the rights of people that they're charged, and that they solemnly swore, to protect. Our nation is a nation for all its citizens, not just the Christians. The long-standing fostering of environments incompatible with the reality of the spectrum of religious perspective that is embodied in the American people is unacceptable, even in the context of raving and ranting by those upset about losing the ability to exploit dominant numbers to insinuate their personal preferences into national institutions.
How can any christian serve in the military with a clear conscience?
Many Christians have no conscience. Let's not forget the largest single group that supported the invasion of Iraq and also supported our torture program were alleged "Christians"
Any group that is judgmental of other human beings like Christians are often turn into people who hate those different than them.

The Rolling Stone Book and articles that was turned into the HBO mini series Generation Kill seems this just nails so well that not much it was well said and had some real good points made in that short like segment.
That said, there are some pretty ridiculous examples here. The website didn't seem to promote religion (though I frankly don't care enough to go and see the article for myself, so maybe it's worse that it seems) but just share a story of a soldier. Which seems like nothing to get upset about.

The irony of this post is palpable.
