Why don't you read the GAO report provided. It is provided to avoid those who do not understand the issue asking silly question like the above. If you disagree take it up with the GAO.

News version.

Report: Voter ID laws reduce turnout more among African American and younger voters - The Washington Post

Why does the right want to disenfranchise voters? Could it be that the group disenfranchised tends to vote Democrat?
This. It is proven to prevent voter turnout, particularly among the elderly and poor, many of whom do not have a driver's license or state id card.

Yep, especially since they need an ID for any other government service.

If there will be a new law requiring ID from all citizens, there's no problem anymore.
The ID can be made free of charge. How? From a low tax on political donations - like the billions Obama collected from his donors. They can't object if the money goes to a good cause.

It costs $10 to get a DMV issued non-driver ID card in New York, there is absolutely no excuse to not get one.

In some states they will even come to your home and print your ID right in front of you if you cannot drive.

Read the report. Says that voter ID does suppress voting. So you are arguing against the facts.

The report DID NOT check whether the "suppressed voters" are even eligible to vote!

Let me emphasize, I wrote ELIGIBLE voters. Yes, the majority of illegals here are non-white, and it makes sense that voter id laws would disenfranchise them, lowering the overall minority turnout.

Why can't the left get their heads around the fact that proving that you are a legal resident doesn't constitute disenfranchisement? If those that chose to self-disenfranchise by being either too lazy or too ignorant to get their paperwork in order fail to complete the necessary steps...then so be it. No one is telling these people that they CAN'T vote. They are simply proposing that they prove to be who they say they are.

Are you saying that poor people and minorities are too incompetent or lazy to do this? If so...who's the real racist?

Will a WWII vet do?

Portage County veteran, 86, doesn't vote after VA identification card rejected at polls | cleveland.com

You could try using Google - there's no lack of incidents.

I'm sure getting a certified copy of one's birth certificate from 80 years back is free and easy in your world.
