Texas is overturning local anti-fracking ordinances
Arkansas is repealing local anti-discrimination laws
South Carolina and other states are prohibiting local governments from building municipal broadband.
Alabama and Oklahoma are blocking local paid leave ordinances....

The list goes on and on with the party that claims to believe in local and limited government having no issue with overturning popular local laws when they are counter to their corporate interest or own prejudices.

Many people are. I know, shocking.

This is a unique situation, They're talking about Washington DC, that got over ruled by conservatives when they voted for legalization. This Washington is not a state.

The republican party has NEVER been a party of small government.

Don't know why that myth persists.

It persists because it is part of the Big Lie that right-wingers need to tell to dupe enough weak-minded sycophants into supporting their candidates. They realize that if truth was told most people would support the compassionate over the callous, the inclusive rather than the exclusive.

Although I absolutely despise the arrogance and hypocrisy of the democratic party. I do agree that the whole narrative that Republicans are for "small government" is an outright lie. At best Republicans want to spend less money, but they no less want to regulate and regiment all of our lives. To that extent, I would say that Republicans are bigger hypocrites than Democrats, but less arrogant.

With that said, groups that are actually for small government(IE libertarians/minarchists) are forced to support Republicans as the lesser of two evils.
