Read it No - they'd be doing other things mostly of non taxpayer benefit.
Data Mining Yes
I gather there's a nice chunk of space sitting on servers in Bluffdale, UT just ready for key word searches.
Financial institutions such as BofA have 'spy teams' departments as part of Global Corp Secuirty that perform surveillance on groups they deem threats.

For something more interesting which Mass Media doesn't report on in much detail, search Director for the Center of Corporate Policy, Gary Ruskin, and author of a 2013 report entitled, "Spooky Business: Corporate Espionage Against Nonprofit Organizations".

"Bank of America has a very long rap sheet of wrongdoing as is common for companies that are highly nervous about exposure for what they do for business. They often have extensive intelligence and public relations shops that work to protect any shred of credibility they can cobble together to keep their brand going."

In the report, Ruskin detailed BoA complicity in a 2010-2011 plan to undermine the whistleblower website Wikileaks, after its editor in chief Julian Assange announced his intention to take down a top US Bank and reveal a corruption scandal within it. The basic story is that Hunton & Williams, a blue chip law firm in Washington DC, was solicited with a proposal to destroy wikileaks on behalf of BofA, which was concerned that they might be the subject of the upcoming revelation."

"We have copies of the proposal that was pitched to Hunton Williams on behalf of BofA. Most of the stuff is plainly illegal and some is, at minimum highly unethical."

Other documents showed private public partnership between FBI department of Domestic Security Alliance Council. Maria Verheyden-Hilliard, executive director of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund said, "These documents also show these federal agencies functioning as a de facto intelligence arm of Wall Street and corporate America."

There are far too many radicals on these boards, and too much talk of secession. The Department of Homeland Security is sure there are going to be domestic attacks soon.

That isn't to say that there aren't other forums the Homeland Security doesn't keep a much closer watch over. There are far more militant forums than this one.

If the federal government is concerned about this forum, its primary concern is probably more about "setting the political discourse". Basically, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the people who regularly post on these forums aren't being paid by the government as part of the "public relations" campaign to control the political dialog.

I was reading an article the other day on the whole Ukraine and Russia situation. How Russia and the West are basically having an information war. And that government contractors are being given lists of websites that they should target for controlling the political narrative.

On that list was City-Data. As well as Twitter, 4chan, reddit, and many others. I was actually surprised to see city-data on the list, because I've basically never even heard of this forum being referenced from any other website.

They (federal government) most likely contract out The American Internet Monitoring project (TAIM) to a Beltway bandit headquartered in NOVA but operating out of China. The Chinese monitor our internet for us while already doing so and bill us for it.

The new Dept of the Internet may decide they don't like the opinions voiced here and that City Data is using too many bits. The DNC website should have more access. Get used to seeing the spinning beach ball on site Obama does not approve of.

I tend to agree, because the prior Dept. Of internet did shut down a think tank a few years after 911. At least one I know of, probably others too. Dissidents on the Internet will be monitored and websites removed, again.

I think people within the national political party come here to help put a spin on things that negatively reflect upon their politicians and policy.

Of course they do... and probably most other major governments as well.

Not in the active forum posting population. Polsters use only 1000-2000 people to create their surveys, so CD is like a goldmine to data collection agencies.
