"The Thames river in London and Seine in Paris were frozen over every year. Humanity has always been prospering during the warm periods and suffering during the cold ones. The climate has never been and never will be stable."
Should we take steps to forestall the next ice age?
Funny stuff. One scientist makes a 'prediction,' and the story makes it into the Life & Style section of The Daily Express.
Russian scientist Dr Habibullo Abdussamatov, of the St Petersburg Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory, painted the Doomsday scenario saying the recent inclement weather simply proved we were heading towards a frozen planet.
"Russian and foreign research data confirm that global temperatures in 2007 were practically similar to those in 2006, and, in general, identical to 1998-2006 temperatures, which, basically, means that the Earth passed the peak of global warming in 1998-2005," said Khabibullo Abdusamatov, head of a space research lab at the Pulkovo observatory in St. Petersburg.
This makes absolutely no sense and he is obviously insane.
But of course, the important thing is whether or not he is telling you what you want to hear.
We CANNOT do ANYTHING about this planet's climate. Nothing. Nada
Adapt, or die. Those are the choices.
We can charge folks to use electricity or gas....give "credits" or whatever....it's NOT going to do a thing! Why is this so hard to understand? The Earth is bigger than all of us....it will do what it will do. It's been hot...it's been cold...and it will do this "fluctuating" until the sun consumes this planet.
Lolz. It's been pretty warm here in Texas this winter, therefore the planet is warming. That's the logic you just used. Any idiot can post a bunch of links about weather.
This is by far the most absurd climate related thread I've seen on this board, and that is really quite the accomplishment given the competition.
In another Ice Age possible? Absolutely. There are a number of things that could cause it. The only problem: there is an absence of those things.
Now, theoretically it's possible. But the fact that this is not a wide spread concern leads me to think there isn't much to discuss here.
