Were they all Democrats or both Southern Republicans and Democrats? Because last time I checked, both political parties in the south were against Civil Rights.

You mean to tell me that you actually read a link from a website that is right of center? If so, then you would have noticed that a republican judge sided with the demonstrators.
If you truly did read the article, congrats for overcoming your fear of non-left wing sites!
Historic moment in history and the impetus for the Voter Rights Act of 1965, we have come a long way. Some chose not to participate as was the case with the 50th anniversary of the MLK speech at the DC Mall in 2013, important part of history and deserving of remembrance.
So illegals are now going to try and compare themselves to the suffering that blacks endured through slavery and segregation? Seriously? This just strengthens my belief that ALL need to get put on a bus and dropped in a desert in Mexico. Build a 30 fence with razor wire across the entire boarder and call it good.
Someone slinkimg across a boarder and sucking the live blood out of entitlements then demanding more doesn't come close in comparison to what blacks suffered.
I'm sure that the black woman in the photo will sing a different tune when some illegal takes her job.
You are correct. I lived in Nashville 1997 until a few months ago and was very impressed at the effort it made to remember and celebrate its vital part in the movement. Much of the organizing (central level) took place at local churches and universities.
This is an important day, which should be receiving more attention from the news.
What a historic moment of monumental proportions. We have one of the greatest Presidents in the history of this country, a black man, speaking about the meaning of Selma 50 years later. He speaks on a topic which represents this country's greatest shame. It is an incredible speech as only this President can give. Republicans, who are THE problem, need to listen and learn.
Oh, Princess, you're doing SUCH a good job of drinking the Kool-Aid. Don't spill any -- Obama needs suckers like you.
The problem is that this black man honestly has no connection to Selma other than his skin color. His white mother was a loose, underage teenager when she was inseminated by a married black guy from Kenya.
As in the country in AFRICA. That Kenya.
So, we're supposed to believe that he has some magical connection? This black man knows very little of "the meaning of Selma".

I would expect a judge from any political viewpoint to uphold the law. I just find it humorous when right wingers try to pretend it was only Democrats that were against Civil Rights when in actuality it was Southerners from both political parties.
