I loved the condescending southern accent slacker Obama used in his speech.
What a moron, and shame on those that remain in his corner.

So illegals are now going to try and compare themselves to the suffering that blacks endured through slavery and segregation? Seriously? This just strengthens my belief that ALL need to get put on a bus and dropped in a desert in Mexico. Build a 30 fence with razor wire across the entire boarder and call it good.

Someone slinkimg across a boarder and sucking the live blood out of entitlements then demanding more doesn't come close in comparison to what blacks suffered.
If anything it should be a wake up call the the nationwide black community that there's a new kid in town and their collective conscience is not going to work like the old Uncle's has worked for so long.

It's even more notable who wasn't there.

No House Republican leaders are going to Selma this weekend. That’s a dumb move. - The Washington Post

And then they profess to not have a clue why blacks don't vote Republican.

Selma was an amazing pivotal moment in US history. The coloured people of America made a stand and were rewarded but even after 50 years there is still a long way to go for them and white people.

What I don't understand is how Obama who is half black can allow millions of illegal aliens into the country to compete for jobs that many black people do today. Obama embraced "his" people in the speech but it seems that he is doing everything he can with this stupid amnesty thing to keep "his" people down. ?

HeyJude514, I was glad to see W and Laura planned to attend. But Repubs were lacking at the event, and that is tragic.

The fight for amnesty is the new "Civil War".

Pro-amnesty and anti-amnesty are the new versions of "North/South".

Were Pelosi, Reid, Biden there? Why invest in a lost cause?

Diane Nash, a leader and strategist of the student wing of the 1960s civil rights movement, refused to march in Selma on Saturday because former President George W. Bush also attended the event, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the famous nonviolent protest.

But she doesn't mind marching with the winner of the Peace Prize, who bombed Libya, armed insurgents including Al-Qaeda, uses drones to kill people, etc. What a hypocrite.
It doesn't really matter, the immigration/amnesty business is just the 21st century version of tribal sell off. Another half century and west of the Mississippi becomes the true Aztlan.

That's sad. It could have been an opportunity to show that Repub's (at least of that era) were instrumental in getting the Civil rights legislation passed during the 1960s. Some of the southern whites may not have liked it, but where else are they going to go?

True, there were progressive Republicans back then in the South. But no matter what party label you assign to them, the Civil Rights supporters always were, and to this day remain, progressives. And today, all the progressives are in the Democratic party. As the lack of attendance by the GOP illustrates.
