And let the legal battle begin! Expect FIRE to pay for the students' legal defense fund. This won't be a cheap battle, but the law is ultimately on the students' side in my view. Hopefully, this goes all the way up to the Supreme Court so that the national standard is clarified/strengthened.
I doubt the students will fight it. They don't want the media attention of showing up to court. They want the incident to go away.
So what exactly do you have to say about what happened??
Your not really proving that your an empathetic, caring individual here.
Your not really improving your image if that's what your goal is.
improving his image, to you?
He doesn't have to improve his image to anyone....
not only is he empathetic and a caring individual, he is also intellectual....and stands for "right". which most people these days do not.
This isn't like someone screaming out racist and insulting terms out of anger. This was a well rehearsed chant that the fraternity had done many times before. This time they got caught on camera doing it. Also, the well rehearsed chant included the phrase "you can hang from a tree but you won't sign with me" has one of two meanings, and both racist. Hang from a tree could refer to a time when black men were lynched and hung from trees or it could be a reference to calling blacks monkeys or apes hanging from trees. Neither is good. I can forgive someone saying something racist while in the heat of the moment in an emotional incident, this was not such an incident. This was a specific fraternity chant everyone in the frat knew and enjoyed saying together.
