Because the First Amendment matters. Shabazz suffered no government consequences for his "kill Whites and their babies" public statements. Likewise, the frat bigots should be treated equally = no government (public university) consequences. The court of public opinion is an entirely different matter, and they're very likely unemployable and deservedly so.

You can make that case, its irrelevant to the free speech issue. You know its kind of like the old saying "two wrongs dont make a right".

A fraternity function is an extension of the school and all parties agreed to the code of conduct upon going to the school:

Quote:
Prohibited Conduct
These definitions include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Abusive conduct: Unwelcome conduct that is sufficiently severe and pervasive that it alters the conditions of education or employment and creates an environment that a reasonable person would find intimidating, harassing or humiliating. These circumstances could include the frequency of the conduct, its severity, and whether it is threatening or humiliating. This includes physically abusing a person or holding a person against his or her will. Simple teasing, offhanded comments and isolated incidents (unless extremely serious) will not amount to abusive conduct.

This will destroy any free speech argument you want to make.

like I and others have said.

They aren't locked up, they can attend other universities..

they just can't attend this one for violating the student handbook.

It happens, deal with the consequences of your free speech and have a seat....at another university, lol.

Black Power fist student displayed a threatening gesture on campus.
You will have an easier time proving that water isn't wet than proving hate speech is free speech. It's that estoertic libertarian BS that says all speech is agnostic, states rights trump federal rights even if states rights violates human rights (slavery for example).

You're not saying anything new. Like I mentioned earlier - if you feel very strongly join an online petition and contribute to the defense fund for the poor defenseless SAE boys.

As usual when you catch someone red handed and racism can't be argued you hear statements such as I'd bet blacks do it too....

We all have issues...it's how we address them and learn from them that makes us good people (or not).

these kids will get employed, stop acting like SAE doesn't have friends in high places that will look out for them down the road.

Exactly. Thank you.

Both these idiotic OU students and Shabazz have the same protected First Amendment rights. They can say whatever they want. But the public will judge them for their statements.

No, it isn't. It's the exact same thing.

And displaying the "kill Whites" Black Power fist is equally if not more threatening than a stupid racist frat song.
