So it is the Republicans fault the Democrats didn't read the bill? That their staff didn't read the bill before they voted on it?
The Democrats were certainly free to repeal the Hyde Amendment when they had both houses of Congress and a filibuster proof Senate, but they didn't. I don't even recall it being discussed. So that must mean that the Democrats still value it.
As to the timing of Lynch's confirmation, Harry Reid wasn't in any hurry to confirm her. He had the opportunity.
Both parties have used confirmations as leverage. The 130 days of Lynch pales in comparison to the 13 months of Ed Meese.
The overarching point ought to be however, it is the Democrats who are delaying Lynch's vote, not the Rebuplicans. All they have to do to get to nomination vote is work on the Human Trafficking bill and reach agreement there and stop filibustering it.
I assume the Hyde amendment wasn't repealed because they didn't have the votes but I doubt they ever thought that it would be applied to trafficking victims down the road.
Yes the democrats should have read the final version but as stated this change was put in place in January depending on who you want to believe, if they actually read it probably would have been held up in committee.
Both parties agreed to delay the hearings for Lynch and Carter until the new congress was in place no good deed goes unpunished, that doesn't translate into not being in a rush. Still inexplicable why a superb candidate such as her is still being delayed particularly considering the GOP love for Holder.
Yes both parties do this but that doesn't mean this action or any other gets a bye from criticism, holding up an AG confirmation and a human trafficking bill should not be tied together. Beyond that the morality of asking destitute victims of trafficking to pay for their own abortions is rather reprehensible.
The issue is a provision in the human trafficking bill
that allows victims of human trafficking to receive funding for abortions.
It's an embarrassment.
We should fully fund abortion on demand regardless of circumstance.
Every public funded County hospital in the nation should be required to have the clinics.
The 68 page bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously with the language in it. There were no objections and no amendments offered.
Close. The 68 page document passed unanimously after the GOP were asked to list any changes of substance to the bill. They did not mention this change, and in fact slipped it in there by tying this bill to another 1600 page bill that had the language in it.
True story, the Dems missed it, but also true story, the Repubs did a damn good job of slipping it in there.
And as stated several times, it is not tax payer dollars, so the Repubs can't rest on the "we are OK with it, as long as it doesn't use tax money" argument. I don't have a link, but it's well documented that this is true. (Even some right wingers in this discussion have acknowledged so.)
If I were Eric Holder I would send a bill of particulars on 47 GOP Senators for violations of the Logan Act to the Federal District Court in Washington DC and push it before a Grand Jury of DC residents (mostly African American) . What's he got to lose?

LOL. one way to push Republicans for a vote for his replacement is to have him do his job....thats kinda perturbing.

This was a 68 page bill, not a 2,000 page bill. The reference would have been clear to anyone who read the bill. You say the Republicans "slipped in" the change, which carries a connotation of underhandedness about it. It implies something without knowing what the facts are. The staffers may not have considered a Hyde Amendment insertion a big deal.

It is the Democrats who are holding up Lynch's vote by filibustering the Human Trafficking bill.

The AG confirmation and the human trafficking are not tied together, although it wouldn't be unusual for completely unrelated matters to be crammed into one bill, that is unfortunately how the system works with no line item veto.
From whence did this great cooperation of Harry Reid come when he spent six years obstructing any Republican ideas or amendments? Miguel Estrada was a superb candidate for a judgeship, but the Democrats blocked him for over two until he withdrew his nomination and it took two more years to fill that seat.

Geee whizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz another leftie who cannot count.....
The Loretta Lynch watch continues and takes a bad turn, I think Durbin went overboard with his comments but I can understand his anger for letting an over qualified AG sit on the sidelines. The democrats should approve the bill and be done, it won't play out well for the republicans when all is said and done that this was their reason for holding up confirmation.
