Wall Street favorite Chuck Schumer is poised to take over as the Democratic leader in the Senate when Harry Reid steps down next year. The big banks and other New York financial houses have reliably been huge contributors to his campaigns, as if he continues to toe the line, will continue to be the case.

Wall Street welcomes expected Chuck Schumer promotion

Schumer's ascension to the top Democratic position in the Senate -- and even possibly to Senate majority leader if his party regains control of the chamber -- is a boon for the finance and business communities, which have worked closely with the New York native and enjoyed his support for decades. It also puts an industry ally in charge of the Democratic caucus as the party's economic populists, including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, have grown increasingly vocal.
Of course there are a few Democratic detractors in the Senate of this kind of coziness with Wall Street, but apparently it is not so much that Democrats would actually turn to someone else as their leader in the Senate who is not so closely tied and supportive of these sorts of interests. No, money talks, and Chuck Shumer raises lots of it, especially from our nation's largest financial institutions.

So much for all the blather about the 99% and "equality". LOL. What a bunch of pure, undefiled B.S. that kind of talk has been.

Shumer represents NY well....he got Obama to borrow trillions from the Chinese to hand out to his fat cat Wall Street friends that supported him.

As is normal, our government does best when it's divided and no person or party controls all the power. Shumer will be fine as long as we don't have a majority Dem House Senate and President.

I'm not a Schumer fan, but I would expect a NY Senator to have the support of this nation's economic financing engine.

I wish someone would "finance" some decent roads, a quality education system, a government that is not incompetent, and maybe some quality television viewing while we're at it...

What has that "economic financing engine" been "financing" lately?

Many states finance that stuff. I'd like less road construction in my region.

Primarily an increase in the wealth of the top 1%.

And of course the nation's economic financing engine includes the Federal Reserve (who has been effectively running the printing presses) and the US Treasury (who issues our nation's debt), which are both part of the US Federal Government.

But, but, but, it CAN'T be.

We have read on here over and over and over that it is ONLY the repubs that have Wall St. connections.

Are you saying all those posters are wrong?

Barbara Makulski, Dem from MD, used to go to NY for fund raisers held by the banking industry, she was the ranking member of the banking committee.

I don't think she even bothered to have fund raisers IN MD.

They say in Wash, if there is a camera around, don't get in Chuckie's way.

The Democrats are the champions of Wall Street and many of the leading Democrats, including soon to be Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Shumer, are owned by the big banks.

If the media has a shred of integrity left, they will call a great deal of attention to this fact anytime the Democrats start talking about the 99%, equality, or the evil of the large banks.

Do you think the media will do this? If it was Republicans who were constantly banging on about this stuff, you know they would be on it like white on rice. Surely they will offer the Democrats the same treatment now that Mr. Wall Street himself is going to lead the Democrats in the Senate.

They will, won't they?
