Except that what's being talked about here is an American trend that's spread overseas. Political correctness and the nanny state began in the USA, and after they fouled up the US started fouling up other places.
That's not what is talked about in this thread, and the OP was trying to make an entirely different point, but concerning the origins of the nanny state you are correct.
