It's as if some people think there is a race to see who can control other people's live the most.
---------------------
Scotland in the 21st century is a hotbed of the new authoritarianism. It's the most nannying of Europe's nanny states. It's a country that imprisons people for singing songs, instructs people to stop smoking in their own homes, and which dreams of making salad-eating compulsory. Seriously. Scotland the Brave has become Scotland the Brave New World.

If you had to guess which country in the world recently sent a young man to jail for the crime of singing an offensive song, I'm guessing most of you would plumb for Putin's Russia or maybe Saudi Arabia. Nope, it's Scotland.

California on the North Atlantic....it's very sad.
OTOH considering how socialism and big government are so popular in Scotland, it's not totally surprising.

It was originally a California thing. Funny, the rest of the world loves to bash California but they love to copy California's policies.

No country in the world loves big government as much as the US. If that weren't true we wouldn't spend more on our military (part of the government except to the severely myopic) than the next 8-10 countries combined.

It's more the Scottish National Party than Scotland. The SNP is extreme far left and very authoritarian. The fact that they make the semi-socialist Labour Party look like moderates hould be a big clue right there. If Scotland were to become independent the place would go down the toilet within a decade. It would look like Venezuela.

In the mind of the average American suburban dweller ANY European country, whether Scotland or Germany or Norway or Greece or France, is a cross between a third-world slum and a concentration camp

WOW! It's just amazing how many who consider places a cross between third-world slums and concentration camps choose to vacation in those places, eh?

Except that what's being talked about here is an American trend that's spread overseas. Political correctness and the nanny state began in the USA, and after they fouled up the US started fouling up other places.
