A major casino in Vegas offered her $12.00 an hour for an IT job. Are they NUTS?

But they can bring in foreigners to work for those rates.

This is wrong.

And this is why so many people want to just see the whole greedy, corrupt American system fail.
H1B workers are not really paid that low. Their base salary must be higher than the prevailing wage.
No matter what, $35,000 won't work. Most employers care about quality more than a few thousand dollars too.

If jobs remained unfilled people aren't being paid enough.

LOL...replace the entire development team of software engineers making 120K/yr....with "software business analysts" making 60K/year.

And most employers dont understand what the dev teams do. They do in fact replace them, often via contractors hired through infosys for example.....

And its worded thus "we can replace that entire team, with our team, and we will deliver the same results...only cheaper."

Even the valedictorian has to pay their dues as a cubicle slave. They don't get hired right out of school into leadership. You may pick things up quicker and get promoted faster, but that is all you should expect.

Excuse me, but to the people who missed my point - it isn't my SO's skill set or job quality - has never missed a day of work or a class in her life! It is the fact that the companies are hiring foreign workers for $25,000 less than jobs they advertise to Americans.

They hold interviews, then don't hire based on some obscure qualification, then bring in Indians who aren't qualified, provide training and pay them 1/2 what Americans can work for.

I know doezens of H1b workers. The lowest salary of them is 70k (he had no work experience at all), and the company also pays attorney fees and filing fees for their H1b.

Google, Microsoft, Facebook and so on all have very difficult interview questions. If you don't believe it, go try it.

You do not live and work in the US so all you have to go on is personal stories and what you read.

Those of us in the industry here in the US see a different story.

I am a software developer in Boston area.
I see both sides of the story, but a lot of posters here only see one side.

Oh I'm sorry. I thought I recalled a post where you said you were in China.
