"To answer the title question as succinctly as possible only requires two words – Not Much."
What Exactly Does the U.N. Accomplish?

I think that was not so bad idea for UN to being an open public forum of debate and cooperation on some matters. But really bad idea was to give UN an authority. Because this organization (of course) is not independent and not so neutral.

This years U.N. budget is over 5 billion dollars. 650 million of that (22%) will be paid by the United States government with taxpayer money.
The U.N. has become little more than a very expensive club for diplomats from other lands to enjoy and live well.

Time to withdraw and save a ton of money that those cackling hens line their pockets with.

That's pure hypocrisy, the UN was created in San Franciso by the US.
The UN served more US interests than any other nations.
War-mongers on the right have a very short memory, the UN helped 2 Bush President build coalitions to go to war in Iraq.
Israel gets more money from the US than the UN
Far-right partys have promised to leave the UN but never kept their promises.

The UN in it's present form is little more than a forum for 3rd world dictators and terrorists to antagonize the United States and the West in general. Any organization that even considers the likes of a country like Syria to chair it's Human Right's Council is an obvious farce.

For instance, this year the Human Rights Council welcomed the new members of ... get ready for it ... China, Cuba, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. Yeah, I kid you not

The UN is a bunch of talking heads where most of it's budget goes to lining their own pockets. The diplomats and anyone they bring to the US with them are tax exempt for everything. Thus NYC gains nothing yet pays out millions in relation to it. The US can't even get rid of the UN site because the land it sits on is international land.

On the other hand, the UN have stood by and watched several genocides, including the Congo in the 60's and more recently in Rwanda and the continuing genocide in Dafur. Fair and balanced, after all.

Besides, large numbers of UN employees draw handsome salaries. Thank gawd for government jobs programs.

The UN was created after WW2 to solve international conflicts without going to war and using the tools of negotiating and diplomacy. However over the course of last 20 years the United States has made a lot of effort to destroy the UN as a institution by starting wars that broke international law. Today the UN is largely discredited and none of the other big players like China, Russia and India is respecting it anymore because it is largely seen as a tool of the United States to create an International Law which only suits the United States and is trying to shaft everybody else.

You've only covered one department. The US actually spends Billions and not Millions which as of this year has exceeded the $5 Billion mark.
