My hospital won't hire new tobacco users, but has grandfathered in the currently employed smokers. It's tough to argue against, when as a "smoke free workplace" I still smell my fellow nurses coming back smoky from their work breaks, taking care of critically ill patients.
edit: sorry to go off-topic, was just responding to BrownsFan.
Do they also ban perfume? Who wants to small perfume while doing surgery.....
When all the prudish bastards die off. Everyone older than 45 in this country needs to die off.

Well.... I'm almost 42, and I fully support ending prohibition of cannabis.... And it should have happened like yesterday! A neighbor of mine is in her mid to late 50s and smokes, as do many of her friends her age. I can also tell you that a family friend of my parents is more than likely still a smoker, and I think he is pushing 60. You'd be suprised how many "older folks" don't oppose legalization. All you can really say is that those who don't are really just control freaks, and essentially are perfectly fine with trading in more of their individual liberties in exchange for more security. Either that, or they have skin in the game, and work for the special interests that lobby to keep prohibition going, out of fear it will hurt their wallet!
This is not true. There are no regulations or taxes for home grown tobacco. The same is true for distilling or making beer or making wine.
And legalization of marijuana will never eliminate the black market as long as it is highly taxed.
You are technically correct. You can grow as much tobacco as you want. But as soon as you cure and process for sale, it becomes subject to the TTB regulations and have to obtain a federal tobacco permit and pay federal excise taxes.
Lots more on that here: eCFR — Code of Federal Regulations
Even if the black market exists, the availability of legal commercially grown marijuana will make it as competitive in pricing as home brews against Budweiser. Which is to say, prices will come up to and beyond commercial prices because of the market, and the strongest niche for home producers will be premium products.
No taxes for homegrown here in Colorado.
And how exactly would you tax homegrown?
No sale = no tax.

(I should have made it clear I was specifically talking about selling home grown marijuana. Some people will obviously continue to grow for personal use, but, just like beer and wine, that will be a small fraction of total consumption.)

A huge number of people grow their own weed and always will regardless of the law. It's not that difficult to produce a quality result, unlike tobacco and wine.
