Gosh, I've forgotten what Democrats actually stand for now: they've been pandering so much, and now they have nothing to run on.
Wow, so all the GOP has to do is enter the 21st century to win the White House? Cool. The thing is, can they win it without the Evangelicals? Because they're having none of that gay marriage stuff, thank you very much.

James Dobson, founder of the far rightwing Christian organization Focus on the Family, is predicting that there could be a war over this if the Supreme Court rules in favor of SSM: “Talk about a Civil War, we could have another one over this.”

Revolution! Anti-gay activists threaten uprising if Supreme Court approves marriage equality

So...can the GOP still win if they tick off the fundamentalist Christians?

They need to do their math. If they figure they get more votes by trading evangelicals for gays, then the evangelicals are going out the window.

Yep. I was considering the defense of marriage line of thinking the other day, because I heard it is coming up to the Supreme Court. It struck me as so ridiculous that someone's marriage has to be defended from some gay folks expressing their love for one another. In my nearly 20 years of marriage, I can think of many assaults on my marriage, and when I did the dusting, mine or my wife's fingerprints where the only ones at the crime scene. Seems to me that a lack of emphathy and compassion for other people a bit different from you is a far worse threat to your marriage.

It strikes me as another classic wedge issue, meant to stir up the wingnutters. That seems to be all the GOP has lately.

I dunno, saying that could well result in a third candidate or the ideologically christian voters staying home.

Seems to me most Rs are still fighting abortion, these many years later. I expect they will do the same with SSM.

Right, just like after the Roe v. Wade decision when the GOP decided to live with the Supreme Court ruling. The fact is the Republican base will force them to keep fighting this issue for decades. Even now, the 2016 candidates are trying to outdo each other on hating the gays.

You must not read any left-wing news sources. I used to read the Washington Post, every day there would be a new story about homosexuality front and center on their web site. Actually, today there are two stories at the very top:
Washington Post: Breaking News, World, US, DC News & Analysis
Regardless, lately I've been ignoring what passes for political debate in this country. It made me realize how little most people care about all of this stuff. I don't know what people who don't really follow political issues base their votes on...but I'm pretty sure it isn't gay marriage.

Jimmy D. LOVES the gays. His holy war lines his pockets every day That's his real fear, that he won't be able to make money by scaring old white people about how the dirty gays are coming to take their bibles.

Well we sure as heck do not worry that will coming out of the mouth of any current Republican candidates for the Oval Office, so the idea is simply fantasy.

I would be happy if the GOP let go of their bigotry, somehow I don't see that happening any time soon.

You should probably stop worrying about the GOP, and start worrying about your platform. A smart GOP candidate like Rubio or Jeb aren't going to trip over social issues, ESPECIALLY ones settled at the Supreme Court. You better get with it and start convincing Americans why Hillary deserves a shot, not why Republicans don't.
