What police are supposed to be is public servants. They are supposed to be peace officers, they are supposed to enforce laws in accordance with the Constitution they gave a solemn oath to uphold.
You do know about the Constitution don't you? The Supreme Law of the Land. The law that is superior to all other laws which may contradict it? The one that the vast majority of Law Enforcement wipe their backsides with several times every day as they intimidate people into unconstitutional searches, and arrest people for victimless crimes?
They are supposed to put as much value in a Citizens life as they do in there own. They are supposed to understand that a Citizen only has a moral obligation to obey laws which are in accordance with the Constitution.
I live in a community of 12,000 people and we do not even have a police presence in our town. If someone needs police for some reason, they have to drive 20 miles to get here. Do you think we have anarchy? Do you think we have a crime problem? No, the truth is they are not needed, and I have a sneaking suspicion the rest of the country is similar, because when we do encounter them they are usually rude, bullying, and have some kind of attitude that they are the superior to the citizens they are supposed to serve.
My personal opinion is they all need to be replaced with real professionals from the private sector.
Cops and teachers are the only professions who try to tell their employers that their dissatisfaction with their job performance is their own ignorance and they are full of crap. That's what happens when you give power and tenure to government employees.
