If so, it looks like the white officers are going to have an easier time getting off than the black officers.
Goodson, a black guy, was driving. Hard to see why he’s responsible for much, since he was just driving, but maybe if he was making hard turns or something?

Brian Rice, white guy, was a bike patrol guy, first guy to make contact with Freddie. But he wasn’t in the van apparently.
William Porter, black guy, was in the van, but didn’t call for medical assistance. Helped Gray off the floor and onto a bench.

Alicia White, despite her name, is a black woman. Unclear if she was in van, she was sent to look after the arrest, but didn’t call for medical assistance.

Edward Nero, white guy, was on bike patrol. Handcuffed Gray and held him down until the police van arrived.
Garrett Miller, helped handcuff and load Gray into police van. Failed to restrain him with a seat belt.

So apparently in the van were the driver, Goodson, plus Porter, both of whom were black. Alicia White I’m unsure about. One or two of the white dudes might not have properly put a seatbelt on Gray.

So who is responsible for making sure prisoners are properly secured? The officers in the van or the officers loading the perps into the van? Why is the driver being charged? Was it his responsibility?

I’m just confused about who was there when Freddie got hurt. It sounds like only black cops were around. Maybe the whites are culpable because they didn’t put his seatbelt on?
It's even more confusing that that - Brian Rice (white cop) is charged with Involuntary Manslaughter AND YET - he never had any contact with Freddie Gray that the other arresting officers didn't also have.
So why is Rice the only arresting officer charged with Involuntary Manslaughter? It's like Mosby through darts at a wall of pictures and charged the pictures the darts hit.

Expect to see these charges revised substantially downwards before this is all done. If the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman episode and the Ferguson situation are any indication, the Baltimore lynch mob crowd will then blame this on the justice system, when in fact it is the prosecutor who is to blame for filing these charges prematurely and apparently with a strong political motivation.

And then the riots will begin anew, with the Democrats out playing the race card and trying to exploit this tragic situation - which since they hold all the levers of power, they are surely ultimately responsible for - for their own short-term political advantage, their constituents in Baltimore be damned,.

Likely wrongful arrested, Rights to a safe arrival to the jail house, and likely not 2nd degree murder.
Unless the driver of the van was driving crazy on purpose and trying to do damage to the prisoner again need EVIDENCE.
The Van was stopped several times to check what was going on with the prisinor who appeared to keep making noise on the way to the jail house.

This should likely be a civil case, not a criminal case and likely a case to sue the police department just on the facts that the prisnor was not secured safely.

With the tragedy this family has suffered put aside, they certainly have seemed to get through life on
lawsuits and such. While the cops are wrong for the rough ride and IMO will be charged for gross
negligence, still, where is the personal responsibility for being a heroin dealer or drug addict (son & mother).

When you say, sue the police department, you really should say, sue the taxpayers of Baltimore.

And there is testimony from the other rider in the van that stated the cops said: "We sure did give
him a run for his money."Now, it will be Baltimore's money.

No winners here.

The NYT wants you to know that the white officers charged in Gray's killing are suspicious characters while the blacks charged are churchgoing gentle folk.

Quote:
BALTIMORE — The first police
officer Freddie Gray encountered on the morning he sustained a fatal spinal cord
injury was Lt. Brian Rice, a seasoned 41-year-old white law enforcement officer
who, several years earlier, had his guns confiscated by deputies who took him to
a hospital after a worried ex-girlfriend expressed alarm about his
well-being.

About 40 minutes later, when Mr. Gray, who was black, lay
shackled in a police van and was no longer breathing, Sgt. Alicia White — a
30-year-old churchgoing black woman with a reputation as a rising star — tried
to remove him. “She’s not even the type of person that would jaywalk,” one
neighbor said.

In between, Mr. Gray was subdued and handcuffed by two
rookie bicycle officers, each in his 20s, both white. A 25-year-old black
patrolman arrived to check on him. The van driver, Officer Caesar Goodson, also
black, is an old-timer at 45. Described by colleagues as “passive,” he never
moved up the ranks.
Black police are victims of evil whites, just like other blacks.

Quote:
In 2004, Sgt. Louis Hopson, now the board chairman of the
Vanguard Justice Society, the association that
represents the city’s black officers, was the lead plaintiff in a federal lawsuit
alleging that the department systematically disciplined black officers more
harshly than whites.

" with the Democrats out playing the race card"

We KNOW this will happen but, it WILL be interesting to see how with a BLACK mayor, a BLACK procesutor, a BLACK police commissioner and the 3 cops involved are BLACK.

Pay close attention to how the LSM plays t.

"So apparently in the van were the driver, Goodson, plus Porter, both of whom were black. Alicia White I’m unsure about

It will be interesting to find out what really happened here. Hopefully the police officers will testify in their own behalf. So far, all we really have is the media speculation, which is notoriously manipulative and untrustworthy.
