Actually, God is neither male nor female. God is God. But God came to earth as man, in the person of Jesus Christ. We refer to God as He, because that is the language. Just like when we refer to humankind as Man.

But Marriage is an institution created by God for Man. It is only for purposes of records and other legal reasons that the government requires a marriage to be registered; i.e., the marriage license.

There are religions where same sex marriages are recognized. So marriage as a religious word will apply to same sex unions.

Are those against same sex marriage going to say religions are not free to define the word as they see fit?

Marriage is a right. Divorce is a privilege.

When we got married last year we had a

1. civil license from the state of New York

2. a chaplain from the locale hospital performed the ceremony.

In the ceremony, at our request, the wording of the ceremony was around the spiritual nature of man and the mysteries of life and its journey and the beauty that is there if we are willing to open our eyes. Even though "God" was not specifically mentioned we were married in an occasion that emphasized that there is something greater than man.

I believe that we are "married" in both physical and spiritual terms. Married is the term that we use as we are more than "civilly unioned."

why does the government need to be in anybody's marriage

why do I need the governments permission and fee, to give me a piece of paper to 'validate' my love of someone

its no longer a right if you need permission (licence ) and pay a fee...it becomes a privilege

get government out of ALL marriages, restore our rights

How can the Supreme Court be wrong without congress passing a law defining marriage as a privilege rather than a right?
You DON'T need a license to exercise your "rights".

The SP has made MANY rulings that later have been overturned. They are NOT infallible.

That is patently absurd conservative reasoning. Of course it stands to reason that it should. Marriage involves a combination of assets and liabilities that has all sorts of legal implications, as well as oftentimes the production of offspring that carry their own set of social welfare consequences; so naturally there will be societal laws regarding marriage.

That is true but we have to remember that they interpret the Constitution and each court is different as justices come in with different points of view. That said, I don't see gay marriage bans being lifted because they are a privilege, it is a legal right to be treat as equals under the law. Unlike getting a driver's license, or county food handler's card, you aren't tested if you should marry your mate.
