Lee's store is among 42 Korean grocers, delis and carry-outs that have been destroyed or damaged during the unrest. The total number of Korean businesses affected is still being tallied.

Protesters not only looted Freddie's Liquor on West Lanvale, they beat up owner Young Park.

If they didn't, there might not be any place for the locals to shop. I remember in Oakland, CA back in the 70s-80's before gentrification when all of the major stores were pulling out of the area due to the high crime, with shoplifting, robberies, and assaults in the parking lots. Many Asians are willing to take advantage of the lower commercial rent and give the benefit of the doubt to the behavior of the local people. We see the same going on in Seattle, especially the southern part of the city, and except for these infrequent "riots" they have provided a great service to the community by establishing businesses there.

It is cheaper to start a business in bad areas. Cities might also approve quicker permits in these underserved areas.

The Baltimore Koreans need to have a meeting with the la Koreans from the king riots and head to the roof tops to protect what is most likely their sole means of feeding their family.

And the poll is ridiculous, no one should be banned from starting a business anywhere.

These Koreans started businesses in black neighborhoods in order to make a living.

That being said, I have no ideas why these businesses are Underinsured.

My brother has a design studio in Burbank California. He also helps me running retail businesses my family owned. We also have a restaurant and a franchise business. We only hire Americans. The restaurant is owned by veterans, (my brother is a veteran) His partners are all veterans. Several of his friends suffer from PTSD, so they work in the back to avoid the crowd.

All our businesses are located in good area where people are friendly and nice. 40-60% of our businesses are repeat customers. My brother's bbq restaurant is very famous because it is all you can eat and it is cheap. The restaurant attracted a lot of media attention when it first opened.

Success will not be possible without local supports. I for one, have no ideas why these Koreans pick the toughest neighborhood to open businesses. Maybe they should hire some black employees.

Small business loan policies often make it easier for immigrants to access loans than blacks in America-how twisted is that?

So they can make money and defend their stores from black rioters.

This is really a silly poll. NOBODY should be banned from opening a business ANYWHERE regardless of the color of their skin or their ancestry.

Nothing twisted about it because the lending organizations know the Asians will actually pay off their loans and the blacks for the most part won't.

Anyone should be able to open a business anywhere they wish. Unfortunately at times they may regret their decisions. Live and learn.

We had a mostly-black area here some time ago, and the residents complained constantly that "they" wouldn't come in and open up stores and businesses so the residents wouldn't have to travel to other areas to shop.

Some apparently crazy people asked--"why don't you open up your own businesses?"--no response.

Then the SE Asians came in and opened up stores, and the residents complained about them for years.

So yeah, I've always wondered why in a mostly-black area there's aren't a ton of black-owned stores. I'm sure there's a logical reason.
