Ignore "race relations". Individuals will be and do what they will. Who cares about a "race" as a whole? I don't interact with "races", I interact with individual people. And the vast majority of every race I interact with are decent, hard working people.
As far as the violent culture of some inner-city areas-honestly, who cares? It's up to the individuals there to address their issues. Or not.
In America, we do not segregate or discriminate against others based on "race". We do it by "income".
It's the responsibility of those who control the narration. To whom much is given.....much is expected. That be white folks.
This is how the narration goes. A person is walking down the street waving their arms frantically back and fourth, while others in the vicinity are not behaving so strangely. However, what people cannot see is that person has walked in an area where bees are swarming around and the person is waving his arms back and forth in the air because of the bees. If you want to narrate that the person as being "nuts" or "dysfunctional" or "abnormal", you leave out the external triggers that created the reaction.
Analogously, this is what happens in regards to the narration of black America. A large conservative sector of the American population is hell bent on narrating that there are no bees or gnats or other external things going on that would explain black reaction (our socioeconomic condition). Hence, by narrating the elimination of those external factors (most notably the history of racism), they can portray blacks as "nuts" or naturally dysfunctional, when they narrate this, race relations suffer because people then start to see blacks as "inferior".
When white people are enslaved segregated and oppressed for 400 years then race relations can be fixed!
Here's a clue, not all of us white people came off on the Mayflower, there's a lot of us who came from backgrounds where our ancestors were oppressed, where their lands were invaded, families killed, this whole "its been a walk through the park for white people" rhetoric is complete BS. My family moved here oh about 20 years ago, so excuse me if I don't feel responsible or feel a need to apologize for whatever went on before we even got here.
I judge people individually, if you act like an a*****e, I'm going to think you're an a*****e, regardless of your race, if you're nice to me, I'll be nice back to you, if you show me respect, respect will be given in return. It is that simple, if people on an individual level stopped looking at others as representative of a much larger group, however you wish to categorize them, and more as unique individuals, we would all be the better off for it.

I think you are overreacting. This is not about YOU, so please do not try to refute an argument based upon something not being TRUE of YOU, because the discussion was not about YOU.
That said, if one says "Americans elected Obama as their president"......that is not disproved by pointing out an American, maybe you, who did not vote for Obama.

Read the previous poster's comment and then get back to me. Just grouping all white people together like we're some sort of monolithic block of people who all think and act the same is blatantly offensive, people certainly get upset when its done to African Americans or Hispanics, not sure why this sort of rhetoric is anymore acceptable.
Your operative phrase is, "treat people with the respect they deserve," and I will add until they show you they deserve otherwise.

If you wanna fix anything, just treat people with the respect they deserve and leave it at that. Don't worry about fixing anything. Just worry about YOUR personal relationships.
The race pimps and those who want Santa Claus government will never allow racial harmony.
We already have racial harmony.
YOU don't. That's your problem.
