"Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said this week that he intends to mount a fight against the reauthorization of the Patriot Act, the post-Sept. 11 law that gives the National Security Agency much of its authority to conduct surveillance programs.

"“I’m going to lead the charge in the next couple of weeks as the Patriot Act comes forward. We will be filibustering. We will be trying to stop it. We are not going to let them run over us,” Paul told the New Hampshire Union Leader on Monday."

Progressive left? You know a number of liberals and people you would call progressive left agree with Paul.

One of a very few things I agree with him on....merely because he sounds like his father on this....he is still a neo con playing libertarian. Oh and McCain/Graham/Rubio/McConnell/McCain etc etc ALL want it renewed some of them permanently.

Curious statement. Because he's tactful on Israel?

Rand Paul Plans To Filibuster Patriot Act

[via Infowars.com]
He attempted this the last extention go around but the Republican Party did not support him.

The facts do not support your sensational headline.

It passed the House on a strong Republican majority.
It passed the Senate with equal bipartisan support. Only 4 Republican senators voted no while 23 Democrat Senators voted no.

Mitch Mcconnell has announced his intent to push for a pure extention to 2020.

I wonder how many will not vote, rather than stand up and be counted.

Indeed they do.

I suspect Rand Paul will attempt to modify the Act, not repeal it in its entirety.

Establishment Republicans seem to favor, once again, a pure extention- no modification.

Rubio conveniently decided to not vote back in 2011.

GOP has majority, so its uninformed to say he'd filibuster against Dems. He does it to keep Republicans from re-newing it. It was a GOP baby to begin with.
