The coalition cited research from a 2009 book co-authored by Thomas Espenshade, an economist and senior scholar at the office of Population Research at Princeton University.

If all other credentials are equal, Asian-Americans need to score 140 points more than whites, 270 points higher than Hispanics, and 450 points above African-Americans out of a maximum 1,600 on the math and reading SAT to have the same chance of admission to a private college, the book found.

What are we doing to close the gap between Asian and White test scores?

Many new Asian immigrants have advanced degrees, especially in science and engineering. The gap will probably last for a long time.

Send them back home to wonderful Asia if they do not like how private businesses run things in this country. People sue everything left and right for silly reasons... Most Hardvard students are Asians anyway.

They are Asian Americans. They hold the same passports as you do.

Good for them. I hope the next step is to sue liberals who support or enact affirmative action. Reparations from liberals to Asians and maybe even whites could be an appropriate solution.

They're going to lose because the top schools factor in a whole lot more that SAT scores....which they definitely should. I don't view someone that has spent 4-5 years prepping for the SAT to get a 1600 or so as being a better candidate than someone with a slightly lower score.

However, it IS an interesting bias complaint and under the sheer stupidity that is disparate impact theory which is often the crux of the claim for people like Sharpton, they have a case.

I agree admissions should not be solely based on scores.

The problem is, Asian Americans who are good at other things have no chance either. In fact, only Asians with high scores are admitted.

There is no gap once you figure out it has nothing to do with being Asian or being white.

It's a selective immigration gap.

It just happens that a whole bunch of highly educated Asians have emigrated here and *surprise* they value and encourage education for their kids....who in turn do better than the average "white".

No big shocker.

I mean dear lord, imagine the "average" American that most Chinese encounter in their country. On average they're going to be better educated, wealthier etc. than the typical American.

Should they be concerned about the gap there?
