College tuition is among the cheapest, if not the cheapest, in the developed world in Germany. Their unemployment rate is under 5%. Stop being such a narrow-minded, think-inside-the-box American
With other peoples money. Exactly the point.

Want to be more like Germany? Fine. Only the best and brightest will have the opportunity to attend college. Everyone else either goes to work after graduating HS, or attends the equivalent of votech. Still want to aim higher, but can't make the cut? Then pay for it out of your own pocket.

I'm all for it. It is a very sensible and sustainable approach. Not like America, where everyone goes to college because all the jobs are either done by immigrants, or have been exported.

Instead, maybe you should stop thinking that what works in Germany will automatically work in the US, a vastly different country.

We don't need more college graduates. At least not more with unemployable degrees.

But the good news is that Sanders will not get anything passed.

There's an on going thread about how Apple hid enough tax money to cover the cost of tuition for all American students. So, the worry about who will pay for it should be non-existant. We can use already existing money and just rework how we spend it.

An educated society is beneficial to everyone. Obviously, university is not for everyone and I think high schools should work with students to figure out what's best for them. I highly recommend that people do community college before going on to university if they are unsure. Or take a year off. Technical schools are also a viable option. But since American manufacturing jobs are being done is other countries because of BS trade deals (which as I understand, Sanders wants to repeal), there is not a lot of low skill labor in the US. Cheap college education is a viable solution in that regard, and even if low skill jobs exist. Because obviously colleges should still accept people who are academically prepared, but now the concern of 'can you afford it' will no longer be a factor. Funding college on your own is absurd, and people are left with crippling debt after they've graduated. It's psychological torture and we should want to end it.

I don't understand, why not just print out college diplomas and give them out to all Americans. Every one will still have a college degree and it will not cost the tax payer that much.

Dumb idea but thankfully nothing Sanders sponsors ever gets anywhere.

Skin in the game ($ by students and family) is essential in order to facilitate students choosing wisely where to attend, choosing to study hard years prior to obtain scholarships, and choosing majors with decent or better ROI prospects.

Germany isn't funding a war around half the world or Paying billions to Israel, Pakistan, India, North Korea, Palestine, etc.

There is your money, when do you think we will ever see it?

You mean reality, where a better educated populace would make us more competitive and prosperous? that one?

Or the horrors of an idea where we would give more people a "hand up instead of a "hand out"....isn't that what people like you say we should be doing? And now that someone suggests doing it.....suddenly its a bad thing.

Got it.
