Why is the murder rate in New York City which has very strict gun control laws lower then? Why is the murder rate in Arizona higher than it is in New Hampshire? Murder rates have nothing to do with gun control laws or lack of them, but are a direct reflection of poverty and the quality of policing. This is why some states with strict laws have high murder rates, and others have lower murder rates. It's also why some states with permissive rules for gun ownership have low murder rates, and others have higher murder rates. The left needs to stop thinking that implementing strict gun control laws is going to reduce mass shootings and lower crime. The right needs to stop thinking that everyone owning a gun is going to make each person into Dirty Harry.
Or, even more so, we can look at Virginia and Missouri. Both allow conceal carry and open carry. Virginia has a Black population 2x as high as Missouri (both raw numbers and as a percentage of the state's population). Virginia's most murderous city, Richmond, has a lower murder rate than Kansas City,Missouri. Richmond also has a Black population larger than St. Louis, the nation's murder capital. Missouri's murder rate is higher than Virginia despite having only half as many Blacks and a considerably lower percentage of Blacks than Virginia. Both states have around 6 million+ residents. It leaves alot to wonder about the dynamics between Virginia and Missouri.
As for Arizona and New Hampshire, this is one theory I might pose. New Hampshire is known for the quintessential Yankee culture of New England. Arizona has alot of gangs, issues with illegal immigration, and from what I've read, there is still a bit of the Wild West, as far as I know. I could be wrong.
Chicago keeps getting pointed out. What about Baltimore and Newark? Those are cities more murderous than Chicago, in murders per 100,000. Baltimore just had riots. Both cities are in states with gun laws stricter than Illinois. I would look at those places.
Do you know that gun control and gun prohibition are not actually the same thing?
Do you know, or are willing to admit, that the majority holding your point of view make no distinction between the two as long as they get the guns? Their idea of gun control is to allow no one to own one.
