Now I would appreciate if you responded to my question in the OP.
You didn't address the question to me.

I teach and volunteer in a nonprofit organization to help minorities (usually young black kids) enter accredited 4 year institutions of higher education. Particularly, I teach them STEM classes to prepare them for the growing job market in this area.

Since that question is posted on C-D more often than the girl at the drive-up window at the local McDonald's ask you for your order, it would be nice to just answer the OP's questions. What has the Republican Party done within that last 50 years for African Americans?

I recognize the Republican party as the sheet anchor of the colored man's political hopes and the ark of his safety. - Frederick Douglass

If this was 1888, sure, this is 2015

1. It invited those who opposed the civil rights act, the voting rights act and open housing (like Reagan) to enter its membership with open arms.

2. It had each Republican president (except Ford) criticized for race-baiting in his campaign by Republicans.

3. In a fairly obvious conspiracy, it had Republican governors figure out legal ways to reduce the number of votes cast by poor folks and minority group members, while extolling the great works of MLK in voter registration each January.

4. It passed up on inexpensive, symbolic gestures like stating that the DC NFL team should change its name. Not one Republican senator supported that suggestion, which had little political downside.

5. It had Reagan as a candidate talking about 'states rights' in MS, 'big bucks on welfare eating T-bone steaks' in FL, and repeating a story about a 'welfare queen' across the country long after being advised that the story was inaccurate, in a kind of nice way taking code speech to new heights.

What the GOP has done in the last 50 years for black voters is make it easy for them to stay away.

Welfare reform has led to a drastically reduced homicide rate.

Far more blacks in America are struggling than are doing well?

Could've fooled me.

Pretty much. I treat the Republican Party as if they have Ebola.
