I'm working in Peru and where I live, I'm pretty sure I'm in the top 1% or really probably top .001% in income and wealth compared to the local population. However, when I go the grocery store every week, I'm followed all over the store and when I leave, I get accosted by security to show my receipt after I leave the store. meanwhile, very poorly dressed locals are not bothered. Why me, because I'm 6'6" and white and don't look like most of their customers. Just the way it is.

I said "sex offender" not "child molester." I don't know about you, but I don't think every man I meet is a potential rapist. They have to actually do something creepy first. They have to perform an unsettling act as an individual.

But according to some people, all a black person has to do to be labeled a potential criminal is exist.

You were wearing a suit and Still didn't get respect. You have a lot of work to do before not caring comes naturally.

5 young black males are a bigger threat to me than 5 elderly Chinese ladies...just common sense. Men are statistically more likely to be a child molester than are women and you should take precautions accordingly. Both are common sense reactions to life situations. I don't know how anyone with life experiences and a functioning brain can take a different view.

I'm with you. I couldn't go past 1:25sec. It was too brutal to watch.
I spent my whole 38 yr career as a RN, taking care of people in the ERs of America, even through the McDuffie riots in Miami when we had to be escorted in and out of the 10-block Civic Center hospital area by the City of Miami Police in order to work. This kind of violence NEVER gets easier to look at the more you see it or the horrors it causes. I am now fairly crippled from the years of heavy lifting, pulling on and pushing of the equipment (stretchers, ventilators, ultrasound machines, hospital beds & stretchers), the ill or injured and unconscious people too ill or hurt to help. It doesn't make me angry at anyone, it was part of the job that you don't realize when you are young and vibrant. It's a cumulative sort of side effect of years of that work.
I can honestly say that a person's race was never a factor in the quality or my care to them. I'm a SOFL born Cuban-American, myself. Over one hundred of my family members came to the USA in 1959 when the Castro brothers took over in Cuba. I've taken care of prisoners and even reported the Police (to my Superiors in-hospital) when they closed a door in my face and promptly hit a smart-mouthed prisoner in the mouth with their fist, knocking out two of his teeth. That got me death threat phone calls in the middle of the nights for a while, but if I cannot use violence in my job to those who become rude & verbally abusive or are drunken and wanting to fight me while I insert tubes into orifices needing them to save their lives, then they Police certainly cannot come into my place of work and use it on a patient of mine.
Only once, in 38 yrs, did I ask to be reassigned to another patient area when I had to draw blood and start an IV on a man who was blatantly a racist and a skinhead, and who nsisted on telling me what each of his skinhead tattoos was a representation of because he could see that it 'bothered' me to keep my mouth shut. I'm truly not paid enough money to have to put up with that.
I know that this man, who was beaten up so brutally, has to be in Intensive Care and IF he 'makes it' I'm betting he will require a stint in Rehab to get back to some semblance of 'normal' again. The ONLY positive in the situation at all, is that the first punch knocked him out and he probably will not remember any of what happened to him after that. There's no guarantee of that.
I have a 20-something son now. That changes MY personal thoughts about things SO much. I make certain he is 'carrying' when he leaves the house to go to his job at night. He works outdoors, and alone, and in a Public arena in different areas of our City, some very upscale and some ghetto. I paid for him to take the Concealed Carry course and he chose and bought his gun. He grew up around guns in our home, so the newness and awe of handling a gun is a non-issue for him. My ONLY concern is that he comes home at the end of his shift. I care not about the race of the person who might try to approach and harm him. I care only that my son 'shoot first and shoot to kill' IF the time comes that he needs to do so. We can sort the rest out with police and attorneys afterward. I'm not proud to feel this way nor do I suggest you choose it for you. I only know that violence, of the above caliber, is out on our streets 24/7/365 now and I want MINE to come home alive and well.
Here's hoping that the video camera recording this horrific assault allows each and every single one of the participants to be caught and to spend a LOT of time in prison. I might even invest in a GoPro cam for my son to wear at his job...as an added CYA (cover yer arse). Can't be TOO cautious these days.

Preaches the man with 2,139 posts on this forum! I thought that is all City-Data is...a huge place to vent and rant...and for some to incite on a regular basis.

IF not, what IS the purpose of City-Data?? I have never figured that out!

Strange... that's never happened to me in Asia. Is there a problem with white beach bum shoplifters hanging around Peru?

Default Venting much?

It is terrible that this happened to this young man by a group of men for absolutely no reason at all. Dispute how I or you feel about what happened to this man who left his girlfriends house, you are absolutely wrong for saying

"blacks deserve EVERY SINGLE negative stereotype they've taken so many decades to painstakingly build up and until they change their behavior, non-blacks SHOULD be wary when they're around many of them. And we should be caring less about hurting black feelings when they see us being more cautious around them and we should be worrying more about keeping ourselves, our families and our friends safe from people like in this"

As bad as this video is this has nothing to do with race, the guys who were involved just happened to be pieces of ****. You cannot judge a race by action done by one or a few individuals. When people realize that the better off the world "should be". And if you feel ok to say that somebody really ****ed up your childhood and turned you into a very small minded individual yourself.

Now there is yet another incident to throw into the stirring pot. In Washington State, two hard-working teens were shoplifting beer. They threw the beer at an employee that confronted them. The police then shot and wounded the striving teens.

Hundreds are demanding justice. It seems that throwing a beer bottle at a store employee is fine.
Hundreds protest Washington police shooting of 2 unarmed men

It's actually very logical to treat young black males differently than other people. Sad, but totally rational and understandable.

Even Jessie Jackson admitted this, saying he takes extra precaution around young black males dressed in a certain manner.

How do you solve the problem?
Allow them to beat the bedruthers out of anyone they choose and then there will be no fighting.
