It's impossible if you need to put food on the table quick and pay your bills. Learning a trade skill / going to college in hope of getting a new job takes time and money, and no guarantee in success. Many college workers make only $10 - 12/h.

People do it all the time and people that have been successful were never guaranteed success either - they just went ahead.

People like MX have to have their cheap shoes.
Wow you want us to be like China, a country does treats its employees like cr**!
Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand should be our role model, not a 3rd world country!

Congratulations to the city of Los Angeles raising its minimum wage to $15/h by 2020 for larger businesses and 2021 for smaller businesses

This will be the largest city in America with highest minimum wage in the nation. This will help 1 million workers' who live under poverty.
Cheapskates. Why not $25?

Of course you don't care, because you're totally ignorant about what it takes to run a business or have any idea what kind of businesses employee the vast majority of people. It's ironic you don't care if a small business can't afford this government mandated pay increase and then expect people to go work for Walmart, the liberal whipping boy for low wages.

Except that college and trade school isn't for everyone... nothing wrong working at low-skill jobs!

Let's see here, a person stocking shelves who works 40 hours a week at $15 per hour will make $30,000 annually.

Now, if you owned a business, and you could buy a robot who could work 160 hours a week and cost $50,000, do you think you might want to consider switching over?

Meet UBR-1, a robot that can stock shelves, work alongside people | PCWorld

Ready for prime time? Not yet, but give it a few more years and add a station that automatically swaps out battery packs....

Says you who don't also care about workers' living under poverty, could barely (if at all) paying for their rent/housing cost, putting food on the table, etc. Or you want the government to provide all of that through your tax money?

Maybe if they lowered their housing costs, folks would not be living under the poverty level standard
there in the first place. Never understood the housing market out there for dumps.

Unless that low-skill job is your job while in school, just starting out, after retirement, a second job, the only job due to a disability or a stop-gap job, yes, there is something wrong with having it.

Adults, especially those who support a family, need to have a skilled job, and it's up to them to acquire those skills.
