A good question, not many would answer. They may say they would, but run when the time comes.

Have they trained us to be so passive, we let them now oppress the people how ever they wish, without being held accountable.

How many have died on US soil, defending their liberty, against oppressive government?
And I'm not even talking the fight for independence or the civil war.

I'd have no problem doing it again if called to protect my country, state, community, family or property.

I'll do what a liberal would do: risking your life to fight for my causes.

lol. I like that, it almost fits on a bumper sticker.

I think that what Americans think of as 'freedom and liberty' is gone as a result of hitting the left end of the continent. Without an open frontier backed up by tolerably designed mothership, there's the inevitable sclerosis.

Who gets to decide how to define "oppressive government"? I know people who think zoning laws are too oppressive and one has even gone to "war" with local government officials before he found himself sitting in jail. Let's be honest here; you're talking about a second Civil War here, not defending our country against foreign invaders.

Because the Americanization of the middle east is a liberal cause, and it's the conservatives who are protesting the war.

You are the smartest poster on this entire board.

The people do. Your friend went to war over something not enough people cared about and lost. In the case of the American Revolution, enough people decided it was oppressive that they were able to be successful. We have a middle ground called elections, but there is little real change that comes as a result, partially because, again, not enough people care.
