Those of you who are against minimum wages; how about getting rid of minimum wage and start doing like in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland and Austria where the minimum wages are usually calculated sector by sector in ‘Collective Bargaining Agreements’ and paid accordingly. Most workers' in those nations are member of the union, while in America only low percentages are.

Thanks to the unions, we now have weekend, 40 hour workweek with overtime pay, higher salaries, and other workers' benefits!

Because labor unions are corrupt cesspools of left wing activity and when labor unions fail, this country does better.

I can't say that I'm in favor of any monopoly, whether it's of labor or business.

Quoted for truth.

Labor unions are for the benefit of the the below average at the detriment of the above average.

So corrupt elective office holders who take money and do corporate favors are no better, and in return we ended up with the 2008 recession are no better.

A lot of people won't like it if job advancements are based on seniority, rather than on other qualifications as outstanding past job performance. In other words, the senior person, who has been slacking shouldn't get the job.

But many people are either too lazy or too stupid, or both, to do that.

No, thanks to competition for employees we have increased wages and benefits, not laws.
We dont need third party "experts" calculating wages for everyone.
It takes just two partiesurchaser (ownership) and seller ( employee)

Anything to avoid being paid what you're worth or value to the company is, is that it? Unions, at least in the US, destroy jobs, they don't create them or increase the number of jobs.

Labor Unions: The Concise Encyclopedia of Economics | Library of Economics and Liberty

Many unions have won higher wages and better working conditions for their members. In doing so, however, they have reduced the number of jobs available in unionized companies. That second effect occurs because of the basic law of demand: if unions successfully raise the price of labor, employers will purchase less of it. Thus, unions are a major anticompetitive force in labor markets. Their gains come at the expense of consumers, nonunion workers, the jobless, taxpayers, and owners of corporations.

Labor unions cannot prosper in a competitive environment. Like other successful cartels, they depend on government patronage and protection.

Despite considerable rhetoric to the contrary, unions have blocked the economic advance of blacks, women, and other minorities.

Linneman and Wachter, along with economist William Carter, found that the rising union wage premium was responsible for up to 64 percent of the decline in unions’ share of employment in the last twenty years.
