I should have checked before opening a thread. Mea Culpa.

I'm glad he admitted to it and it owning up to it (take not, Bill Cosby), but what I'm struggling with is how he can still say such cruel things about homosexuals when he himself acted in a way that is sexually wrong and objectively worse than having consensual sex with the same sex.
I was raped by a teenager when I was also a teenager. Was it not rape because he was hormonal and did something he regretted?

This is why people do not come forward with abuse.

I apologize. I wasn't saying what he did was ok because he was a kid. One should still know better than to do something of any sexual nature to another without permission. I was just saying that in terms of the present, he likely isn't still doing it. That's all. It was wrong and I do believe he should have to answer for his crimes, but legally they can't make him. So, my point was at least he's probably still not molesting people. This means, if nothing else, he can't do more damage than he's already done. I didn't mean to come off as saying what he did was anything but unacceptable though.

And, in an unrelated case discussed on this forum a while back involving a pastor molesting his adopted 9 year old daughter, got 40 years. So two people who did something objective worse still had collectively less punishment than a sheriff with what I assume were nudie pics. I know that's off topic, but how can anyone say that makes sense?
I don't know why. In Oklahoma, it's quite a pity how the people couldn't care less when child molesters only get a year or two in prison. And Oklahoma is known as one of the most deeply Christian states in the union. Oklahomans, instead, think it's more important to do something serious about people caught in the possession of drugs by sending them to prison for 4 or 5 years. And then don't complain about it when freed inmates come out saying it was easier to get high while in prison. They say heroin is the big thing now in Oklahoma prisons.

I read the police reports, and the father took Josh to a state trooper whom they knew to report it. The trooper did not make an official report (I feel confident that he had to be a mandated reporter for child abuse, so he completely fell down on his job, but turns out he was involved in child porn himself, so he had major issues anyway.)

If you read through the police reports and the statements from everyone involved, the parents took this very seriously. I can't imagine having one of my children harm another one. The police reports say that the Duggars did multiple things, including taking him to the church elders (who also should have reported to the police), turning him into the trooper, and when the police came to them in 2006, they admitted he had molested the girls and encouraged the victims to all tell the police the truth. The police asked each victim if their parents tried to influence what they said, and every one of them said no, that their parents told them to tell the truth.
The girls also all said that Josh had not done anything else wrong after coming back from Little Rock (where the parents sent him after the molestations) and that they felt safe around him.

I don't know why anyone ever wants to be on a reality show, and I especially don't know why someone would go on a show with such skeletans in their closets. I've never watched the show, but I've seen the family on the news a few times and never got the impression that they were calling themselves perfect. In general, Christianity is an admission that everyone is a sinner.

I've been appalled with the outright gleeful reactions I've seen from some liberals on Facebook and in story comments. I don't understand how anyone can be gleeful about this story.

I think that this is the most reasonable post I've seen anywhere on the internet about the situation.

The story TMZ put out basically says he was like 14 and grabbed a girls boob when she was sleeping.

Wrong is wrong, but if that is all that happened, this is being blown way over board.

I linked to the police reports on the issue. It was 5 girls including his sisters, and it was not just grabbing a boob.

Molestation is the issue, not standards.
