An idle thought I'd just like to throw out here - I have no evidence at all that this is motivating any voter anywhere - but if a nation wanted to make plain its opposition to radical muslims, I can't think of a more effective demonstration than legalizing SSM.

So far it's 60% yes, 39% no. Only 11 counties have been counted. Big turnouts though...60%+.
I have family in Ireland and they have told me this is more of a vote against the Catholic Church.
Either way though this is a historic vote given Ireland's past relationship with the Catholic Church.

Many Irish expats returned just for this vote because they wanted to be back in their country when history was made. #hometovote: Irish abroad return to vote in gay marriage referendum | World news | The Guardian

While I hope this passes, could the vote be much more narrow than some are predicting? Out of the constituencies counted so far, do they include the more urban/liberal areas of the country?

A tremendous shift in attitudes leads to victory over bigotry and hatred. It's too bad we can't revisit all those votes in the US from the last decade. SSM would win here too.

Cork, Limerick and most of Dublin have been counted.
That link I posted is live so a refresh gets you up to date counts.

It's 62% yes with 21/43 counties reported.

It's more about rejecting the Catholic Church then approving gay marriage Ponderosa.
