Cops are not soldiers. That was never the intention of a police force. You don't turn the police into a roving paramilitary group because a few people threaten public safety. This might come as a shock to you, but most people don't want to live in a police state. Our cities are not war zones.
Putting cops in armored tanks is only going to make them more overly aggressive toward the citizenry than they already are.
Please research the 10-33 program and Obamas control over it
Armored vehicles are not used for patrol... you will never see one driving down your street with officer friendly in it.. you will not see them parked on your corner monitoring your comings and goings... its is doubtful that any of you will ever see one at all...
Bearcats are not armored "tanks"... they do not contain recoiless rifles miniguns or anything that shoots a projectile other than shoulder fired man weapons (a gun) /// Some are outfitted with tear gas launchers... ours has a winch and hardpoints for attaching something like a battering ram... which is necessary when there is a need to make a dynamic entry through the side of a building... helpful when a suspect is shooting at you
Bearcats are not patrol vehicles... they are not routinely deployed unless its a special weapons team callout.. in L.A. for example that happens several times a day... and if your the hostage I am sure you are only too happy to see one coming to rescue you containing highly trained professionals... sorry armchair cd warriors.. you are clueless as to the tactics and equipment necessary to safely save someone and keep personnel safe...
We didnt deploy them in the L.A. riots and 52 people were murdered and one L.A. fire captain was shot in the face... I wish we had them... it would have made life much safer.. we had one armored truck and it was a piece of junk.. an surplus air force ramcharger that couldnt go faster then 35 and couldn't go around a turn without tipping over... it couldn't carry any more weight than it had up-fitted in itself... so the lencos are HUGE improvements... the neighboring PD got an APC without any guns... wheeled armored vehicle.. so what...necessary in evolving times and threats
As far as our cities... I invite you to go to Los Angeles ...lets say 83 and Hoover on any given night and listen to the sound of gunfire,,, ( well not you personally because the only thing found would be your shoes perhaps) and then make statements about our cities... war zones.. soldiers.. no we arent those.. we are protectors of OUR communities
Some of you advocated use of the guard... now thats a real solution.. give soldiers with fully automatic weapons the ability to wander our streets and take abuse from idiots... oh that will work out well... can you say Kent State on steroids.... they wouldnt take 10 percent of the garbage a small segment of the public puts out daily
Thank you

LAPD also raided local gun stores to get even in firepower with those two knuckleheads.
And in the 18 minutes that it took for the on duty SWAT team to arrive on scene 17 people were already wounded including one officer who was almost killed and medically retired after the robbery. The commandeered weapons never got to the officers in the fight who held on with their bodies to shield the public until relieved by SWAT
Also lets not forget events like the Boston Bombing, where these yahoos fired hundreds of rounds at a suspect in a boat, and never hit him? Where did all the stray wild slugs go?
As the afternoon progressed, the SWAT teams and the military surrounded three
houses right across the street from where I live. They instructed the residents
of one house, through a megaphone, to evacuate and come out with their hands up.
My neighbors came out of the house with their hands up. They were asked to turn
around with their hands up. And then they were placed in handcuffs--those
plastic handcuffs used mostly during crowd-control events.
This happened in three consecutive houses across the street from me--the
military and the police and the SWAT teams would surround the house, aiming
high-powered rifles at it. They would put an armored vehicle right in front of
the house, with a sniper on top, pointing right toward the second-floor window.
And then, through a megaphone, people were told to come out of the house.
I remember that day quite clearly and had friend's who lived in that area. Saw plenty of photos of military-type vehicles rolling down the street, and the police pulling people out of houses left and right.
This is what you'll see the next time a terrorist strikes a city near you.

If this doesn't scare people, I don't know what will.
I don't want to hear that times are different now. No, they aren't. We have always had threats to our freedom and lives from outside agitators. Why in God's name would we start supporting a threat from inside forces like police departments?!

It was a retired armored car so I would suppose it did have run flats.
that's a guess, not a published report.
The ad for the vehicle didn't specify run-flats & even if it was originally equipped with them, they may have been removed. Run flats are a pain in the butt to mount & on a worn-out van, paying extra to re-use them might not be worth it.
Plus - the vehicle was set-up as a swat-raiding van, not like a bank-transport van. The side-steps are police equipment, no one in the private sector uses anything like that.
I don't think it had run flats & there's no published report saying it did.

I'll look through the articles again. I'm almost certain the tweets at the time were reporting that the tires were armored and run-flats, because they had been shot out.

Those aren't military type vehicles. Those are military vehicles; you can clearly see that those are soldiers, not police officers, using them.
Vehicle on the right is marked Boston PD. Saw a bunch of those, in person
Mike.. so we understand your philosophy here... it sounds like you experienced this use of men and equipment to find the terrorists in your city... are you in oppostion to what they were used for..and if so ..why?
And if you found their use acceptable ... why
Boston PD swat uses standard lenco bearcats
