If you want to know what's in the Obama Trade Bill you have to be a member of Congress, go to classified briefings and not bring staff or cell phone.

If you want to read the text, you will get one page at a time, have someone watch you and you have to hand over your notes when you are done.

You are not allowed to discuss what you've read.

The White House isn't telling anyone what it has already promised foreign governments. The Republican Machine is too smug.

Extreme secrecy eroding support for Obama's trade pact - Edward-Isaac Dovere - POLITICO

"In a dramatic early-afternoon vote, the House rejected the Trade Adjustment Assistance package, 126-302. At least 140 Democrats voted against Obama."

I'm glad it was voted down. If the thing didn't stink to high heaven, it would have been made public.

"Discovered inside the huge tranche of secretive Obamatrade documents released by Wikileaks are key details on how technically any Republican voting for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal would technically also be voting to massively expand President Obama’s executive authority when it comes to immigration matters. The mainstream media covered the Wikileaks document dump extensively, but did not mention the immigration chapter contained within it, so Breitbart News took the documents to immigration experts to get their take on it."

They got Obamacare passed in secrecy and maybe they thought they could do it again ?

This time Pelosi didn't roll over though. And I have to wonder why.

They are not keeping it "hush-hush". They have publicly defended the bill. Thanks to wikileaks, we can also read a fair portion of it. Nothing secretive about this plan to make the American worker even more obsolete.

Didn't we get blindsided with NAFTA? Let's not repeat agreements we can't even read in advance. I don't even like the name "fast track"!

They aren't secret, they are private negotiations. Congress people are included in the specifics of the negotiations in spite of what they tell the public for whatever political reasons they may have. The parties to the negotiations would not be in negotiations if they were not private.

After Democrats get their share of the bribes, then they`ll go along with whatever deal leadership wants.

We`ve seen this Kabuki theatre before.

Democrats will stomp their feet and tear-up for the cameras while delivering just enough votes to cover the corporate ***** Republican shortfall.

Everyone has their hand out knowing if they get voted out of office, the same international corporations that wanted this deal will reward outgoing, perhaps disgraced, officeholders with cushy multi-million dollar do-nothing jobs.

This way they can assure current officeholders that they too will get their turn at the golden trough of differed bribery provided they screw the public as their predecessors have.

They were also including medicine cost, food safety, internet freedom, financial regulations and more. Pharmaceutical companies have lobbied for the TPP more than any other industry......interesting!

I am not sure where you got the idea that Republicans have anything to do with the ridiculous restrictions on access to the current trade documents. There is certainly nothing in the article that you linked that says that. In fact, there have been quite a few Republicans speaking in both the House and the Senate that have over the past few months raised concerns about this practice. This outrageous process is entirely a Barack Obama production.

Also, what they voted down was the Trade Adjustment Assistance bill, which gives money to displaced workers. This is just the sort of thing that Democrats normally live for.

Meanwhile, the Trade Promotion Authority, which limits Congress to an up or down vote on any trade bill that is eventually produced, passed. There is no trade bill to vote on yet. That is still being negotiated.

Let me say that again so nobody rushes past it. The part the Democrats are against, the Trade Promotion Authority, has passed both the House and the Senate.

So the House is apparently going to vote again on the TAA portion, that is the money to displaced workers, next week. This money is currently available and will go away if this bill fails again. The Democrats do not want it to go away. However, if they pass it, the trade package (TPA and TAA) will have passed both the House and Senate and will be off to Obama's desk. So, while the outcome is not clear, many Democrats will be sorely tempted to vote for the TAA bill when it is voted on again next week.
