For all those with "big deal", "who cares" and "they all do it" just remember that when they start crying they have no money and need to raise taxes.

The Bushes continued to go to Africa after leaving the WH.
They went on humanitarian trips, not for African Safaris.

Time will tell though if Michelle keeps her obesity/exercise/eathing healthy campaign post living in the WH.

Obesity overtook hunger as the number one global health problem.

It's right up there with Laura's HIV and Nancy's "Just Say No".

I think Hillary stayed home and worked on healthcare reform.

And Africa would be just the place to work in to fight that. The Bushes are still doing that today with frequent trips to Africa.

Most First Ladies take up their causes when they enter the WH and drop them the day they leave.

Nice Michele, I could have used that money I was forced to pay so you could go on a European taxpayer funded vacation. The American people didn't elect her but she sure likes to spend our money.

I can't stand that toothy woman.

The Bush family made several trips to Africa while in and out of office. These trips include safaries. The SS continues to front run and accompany the Bush's everywhere they go.

It's less than pocket change in the big picture. Having said this, I would decline to travel oversees if I were First Lady and would probably be criticized for it.

That kind of money can change lives. Yet it's tossed around so freely in Washington. Sickening.

dimes dont cause huge increase in debt. and that is what this kind of travel expense is, essentially a dime. and it wont matter if this kind of travel is eliminated or not, the powers that be will still call for increased taxes and spending until the PEOPLE say enough is enough.

Nancy's Just Say No.... no problem Nancy, I work and don't have time to do drugs,
Laura's HIV... No problem, I don't do needles, and don't spend money on drugs,
Michele's .... Obesity, no problem Michele, I don't sit on my butt all day long and I don't gorge.

Tax payer funded Drugs and Food.... Maybe if they would work they wouldn't have such a BIG problem.

Wink Poor lil' right wingers...

...reduced to whimpering about vacation times again.

Don't let facts get in the way of a nice little whinefest, fellas!

Obama vs Bush:

Here’s a numerical look at vacation time taken by Obama and his predecessor, George W. Bush, according to CBS News White House reporter Mark Knoller, who tracks presidential travel. The numbers do not include visits to the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland.
___
—14: Number of vacation trips taken by Obama since he took office in January 2009.
—92: Number of days, all or in part, Obama has spent on vacation.
—57: Number of vacation trips taken by Bush at this same point in his presidency.
—50: Number of visits Bush made to his ranch in Crawford, Texas.
—323: Number of days, all or in part, Bush spent at the ranch.
—7: Number of trips Bush made to his family’s compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.
—26: Number of days, all or in part, Bush spent in Maine.
