Well, you are in the minority when it comes to guns. The latest Rasmussen Poll shows that 68% of Americans would prefer to live in an area that allowed citizens to own guns.
Here in America, we're kind of all about freedom. Sorry that upsets you.
I think what most don't get, and I'm one of them, is equating guns and freedom. It's a fairly American viewpoint.
...and before you mention the 2nd Amendment, I'll say the other thing we don't get, is how is an amendment, based on a technology, that was written over 200 years ago,is applicable today?
Those writing the amendment, in my opinion, would be very surprised to see the status of guns today in the US, let alone the violence.
My ancestors were smart enough to get out of Europe.
Are you surprised there are still millions of people clamoring to get into the U.S. from all over the world? Are those people smart, or are they dumb?
People are clamouring to get into Europe as well...and Canada, Australia etc. It's not just a US thing.
Although I will say, that many people unfortunately get their ideas about the US from TV and movies. Not dumb, but not entirely accurate as well.
I am a citizen of the U.S. and this is basically how I view the U.S. now and how a number of people throughout the world especially Europe see us as a country. I think the U.S. is and has been the laughing stock of other parts due to these 3 societal things. Anybody want to respond either from the U.S. or outside.
US here. I could care less what Europe "thinks" of us. That socialist quagmire that will go belly up any time now is their own place. We are our's.
The US has always prided itself on being DIFFERENT from the rest of the world. And in being different, has become BETTER. I don't recall anyone beating down the door of Europe to the extent that they are of the US. We are the gold standard, like it or not. And them laughing at us makes me know we're doing something right.
I guess I'm about the only one who doesn't want drug addicts walking about in my neighborhood breaking into houses. I don't know what to do with them but they do need to be off the streets.
Real Christianity is fine but what masquerades as Christianity is an embarrassment and an insult to those who do practice the religion as it should be.
Guns? Very few people I have ever known wanted or owned one. Guns are for killing. (Yeh, I know, guns don't kill, PEOPLE kill. People with GUNS kill.) A few people have them for hunting--even then some of them aren't even responsible enough to keep the guns locked up and then kids die, thinking they are toys.
Kids where you live die for this reason on a regular basis?
This nation has serious issues. It's full of right-wing corporate sell-outs who scream about being Christian and loving "JEEEEESUS!" - while at the same loudly trumpeting their need to have as many guns as possible... you know, for the "day of killing" where they will kill: the people who "deserve it," the government, those people, etc. The two-faced hypocrisy - claiming to follow Jesus while being in love with violence - is absurd, and yet these nuts see no problem with it. They gloss over everything in the bible about forgiveness and instead obsess over as much Old Testament wrath as possible while claiming that Jesus saved them - but, apparently, not the people they don't like.
The corporate, for-profit prisons are equally absurd. No other civilized nation is as stupid as this one when it comes to putting people in prison for idiotic things, thus turning them into career criminals because they are basically unemployable once they get out. Even something as dumb as being caught with pot - nope, that's clearly worthy of years in jail and a lifetime of crime and poverty... Right... such a good use of my tax dollars.
And the final irony - the people who typically support putting everyone they don't like in prison are the same ones who cry about how we can never trust the government and how we need less taxes. Apparently, the government is only supposed to exist to put unpopular people in jail and monitor the bedroom, but nothing else?! Right-wing screwballs... and that's why other nations laugh at us, and rightfully so.
Your manner in commenting is attacking the right - a cowardly liberal progressive tactic - and then go into a rant that reads like threads on a screw; they go round and round and end up nowhere.
The proliferation of guns in the U.S. and the deaths by guns show that this country could do better without all the guns.
That's what the UN thinks. If they could just get our guns, they'd have a nice, safe world for the Global elites to take over. You might end up thankful that Soros et al won't get that chance.

If you analyze FBI crime stats I posted earlier in the thread, you'd see that the perceived "love of violence" is a rather complex and very politically incorrect matter. More than half of all violent crimes in the US are perpetrated by blacks against blacks, and they represent something like 14% of population. Take this 14% and their contribution out of statistics, and the remaining 86% of Americans have violent crime rates comparable to Europe. And of course not all blacks commit violent crimes, the majority are not criminals. So we have a very small percentage of population responsible for much of the violence. This is a uniquely American problem and it had nothing to do with people thumping their chest and professing their love of guns - 99.99% of them will never fire their guns at anyone.
Nor is Europe as calm and safe as some people here seem to think. Binge drinking, hooliganism, street fights, often involving knives, are not uncommon in some places. Objectively I think without slavery and the urban ghettos it created, the US would be as safe, or safer, as Scotland or Ireland or Germany.

It doesn't really make sense to say "hey, if we get rid of all the ghettos, the US is a pretty safe place!". It isn't something that can be omitted.
