I have a question for the people who hate the Confederate flag. How does it flying over South Carolina affect you personally? If you don't like it, then don't live in South Carolina or don't visit the state.
My parents retired to South Carolina (Charlotte suburbs) so I visit the state a few times a year. They both hate the flag as well for fwiw.

You would think it would be that simple. But in this PC Bizzaro World that we live in, there are a lot of thin skinned folks that are easily offended over trivial BS!
LOL. Democrats controlled these state houses into the 1990's. This issue was addressed and these flags taken down in South Carolina in 2001 in all locations except this one memorial.
What stopped the Democrats from taking it down over the 100+ years after the civil war when they were in charge?
Conservatives.
In case you weren't aware, during the civil rights movement in the early sixties, conservatives moved en masse into the Republican Party in protest and that's when the rebel flag went up all over the south.

I have. They tell a much different story than the lies that you have lapped up from your political masters. If you are interested, I will DM you your summer reading list.
Whackos that vote republican with anti-Civil Rights rhetoric being one of their political centerpiece... or as Lee Atwater called it:"The New Southern Strategy".
Take yourself as an example and answer these questions:
1- Do you vote republican?
2- Do you believe in people's rights over states' power?
3- Do you support the 14th amendment?

1. I am a non-partisan independent. I despise both major parties. Democracy exists to inhibit change.
2. I support the 10th Amendment which makes a distinction between federal powers and those that belong to the states or the people. Your question makes no sense because states' power is people's rights in this context.

Actually, no they didn't. The Democrats continued to control the statehouses and the congressional delegations of Southern states straight into the 1990s. Look it up and see for yourself.
Also, Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by larger percentages than the Democrats did. Here is the vote breakdown, for your information:
