General lee isn't going anywhere he will keep his place in history. In fact the southern rebel flag isn't going anywhere with its adopted place as symbol of all types who identify as a rebel against general society. My family by the way is from Penn,; but I was born in Texas. You really don't see many rebel flag here but the Texas battle flag is quite common here. Its also common to see a Texas Star on homes with date 1836.

Interesting factoid noted by Paul Johnson in History of the American People is that it was really secession that triggered the demise of slavery. Until secession, abolition of slavery would have required a Constitutional Amendment, and ratification by 3/4ths of states, but 15 of 33 states were slave states. Pro slavery Democrats even held majorities in both the US House and US Senate at the time of secession.

Except for secession, slavery might have continued on for decades. It's almost as if the slave states had a death wish and decided to seal their doom by seceding.

What's next, eliminating American Indian symbols and heritage because they waged war on the US?
Spot on. They even said it in the article, I wonder how long until someone claims Yahoo is a right wing racist rag?

At the time the “Dukes of Hazzard” premiered in 1979 on CBS-TV, the placement of the Confederate flag and the naming of the 1969 Dodge Charger driven — and often flown — by Bo and Luke Duke after the South’s most famous general drew few if any protests, a state that persisted through the end of its original run in 1985.

Only in recent years has General Lee’s Confederate flag, and its associations with the defense of slavery and white supremacy in America, drawn more backlash. In 2012, Warner Bros. shot down rumors that it was removing the flag from the car, and fan clubs where replicas gather remain adamant in their display of the original.

Only in recent years, since a specific part of the political spectrum decided to make everything under the sun about race.

Really? So Germans marched under a flag of the Mercedes logo for the right to enslave millions of people?

Actually, the Nazi flag is a more appropriate analogy. There's a good reason why no one proudly displays a swastika, and the same should be true of the Confederate flag. It should be viewed with the same level of disdain, and for the same reason.

Naacp in Lee county, FL has, for several years been after the portrait of Lee in the courthouse, and the statue outside of it.

Today they renewed their calls for taking down the statue.......How long until we have to spend half a billion to rename the county?

Somewhere, we have all slipped into bizzarro world.

CN.......

There are a multitude of problems Americans could obsess over besides the confederate flag.

It's the we have to do something mentality--which ends up being nothing of any consequence.

I've always had mixed feelings on the flag. If it's a southern person I looked at it as southern pride, northerners as a symbol of hate.

True story years ago I saw a hate group with the flag and told my parents they must be Dukes of Hazzard fans without knowing the past.

Yep, Etsy banned it: Etsy Bans Confederate Flags | WIRED

So did Ebay: eBay to ban sale of Confederate flag merchandise - CNNPolitics.com

Ebay has not banned confederate currency and etc...just anything with the battle flag.
