Depending on issue, folks like me could belong to each group.
That said, liberals numbers are increasing, mostly with the young generation, immigrants and minorities. Are they winning? In some cases yes, though not everywhere. I don't think conservatives numbers are growing. From what segment would they draw new voters?
You make a good assessment.
Conservatives may get support from the growing rank of new Chinese millionaires.

Which is 99% of Americans. The day I became a business owner was the day I realized there will never be a flat tax. Everyone thinks what they get from the government is good and what others get are bad. This is why the current crop or republicans will never win at the national level, The house doesn't count because they are locally elected. Republicans have to lie about thier agenda because the second the say they are cutting the EIC tax credit, the mortgage deduction tax credit, many of the small business tax credits, Medicare, Social Security, farm subsides, or military spending (a continual stimulus package for many localities) they will loose. They can go after food stamps because people who get food stamps don't vote. People want to claim to be conservative because it sounds nice. The way reality works is that everyone wants to spend someone else's money while cutting someone else's benefits. This goes for both parties and all economic situations.

1. Liberals control 90% of the media.
2. The Political Correctness Nazis only allow speech they like at universities down to elementary schools.
3. Hollywood is controlled by Liberals.

Conservatives do not outnumber liberals, however liberals control the media and hollywood so it seems like they are winning. In truth people tend to be more moderate.. the intelligent among us are more social libertarians who believe in pot and guns for everyone.. that people have a right to basically do as they want as long as it does not infringe upon or hurt another person.... not be thrown in jail for victimless crimes or told they can't do something because they might hurt themselves.

Statist nannies would take away all your rights if you let them.. for the good of the children of course. Social libertarians tolerate opposing viewpoints... by in large statists.. mainstream republicans and democrats, do not... they want everyone to be like them, and in the case of democrats/liberals, they'll bend just about every law possible to make you live by their rules.

Some social issues transcend party lines.

These have been getting a lot of press lately.

Because self identification means nothing. Pew and Gallup have both created their own measurements of political leansing, both say the "left" and "right" are about about even , but most of the major issues will have people cross from right to left, not the other way around.

According to Gallup (your) numbers

Conservative: 38%
Liberal: 24%
Moderate: 34%
Unidentified (?):

AND if you read your own link you would see that 52% (2014) of "Conservatives" don't identify themselves with the Republican party (rather they are Independent and Democrat)

This.

Going down the liberal/conservative line only while crying "muh conservatism" ignores a huge section of our voting populous. It's rarely ever black and white, which is what most people tend to ignore.

False analogy.

Conservatives are actually against government aid of any kind. So it makes them hypocrites

where as your liberal example is you simply not understanding what you are talking about.

Liberals dont change their arguments about schools when they fall on the wrong side of a border, if anything that is the basis for our argument.

Same with guns.

Because the left has developed a dominant position in the media, academia and the bureaucracy. It's a very incestuous little cabal and they make sure there's no much conservative intrusion on what they regard as their exclusive turf.
