75% of ppl in Puerto Rico SELF-IDENTIFY as "white". Go to the island and you would see most of the people aren't white but mixed, they just say there white. Under Spaniard and early American rule, Puerto Rico had many racist laws, one which had multiracials identify as white to "up the white percentage", basically the opposite of the one-drop rule in the US. Similar situations happend throughout Latin America. Why u think most Puerto Ricans in the mainland cities like New York and Philadelphia look like their a mulatto mix, do u think once they touch the mainland their "white asses start lookin darker exotic and mixed looking" . But hey just look it up or go straight to Puerto Rico and see for yourself, if u dont trust my word.
I would say that only about 20-30% of Puerto Ricans are really white, meaning there 85% or more of their ancestry is of European origin. Most Puerto Ricans are heavily mixed.

According to what I read the ones that are leaving have the resources and education to come to the mainland and get better jobs here. Now they are returning but not to the mud huts they left. Construction has been on the rise and better conditions exist.
Puerto Rico is an island and has all the disadvantages and problems connected with being an island. One way to think about = it's the intercity, of lets say Baltimore, P.R. where unemployment is high ( over 11% ), opportunity is limited, and welfare is rampant. Half the population is on food stamps. Baltimore may be different but you get the idea.
Another way to think about is it to compare it to a boat. Many who own a boat will tell you it is a hole in the ocean that you dump all you money into.
These conditions exist and have under both political parties. It's the welfare state that no one wants you to know about and seldom will you hear anything from the elected.

Well, I certainly agree that the degree of failure here in learning math is way beyond anything that could be explained by racial admixture or any kind of victimhood.

Yeah. Being a territory isn't working out very well. And I don't see any upside for the U.S. in making Puerto Rico a state. So independence seems like the way to go.

They are all mixed. Most have sizeable amounts of black blood.

The US would have been better served to take over Cuba back in the day. PR is,and always has been a disaster. Let them go!

I wonder what it is that Cuba is doing so much better. Most Cubans are more educated than Mexicans and way more educated than people from Puerto Rico.

I really CAN'T say "race" because a Puerto Rican can be white, Black or Indian/Asian or a mix but, none of the kids do well.

May be Puerto Rican like Mexicans just don't value educations like Cubans do?

There is lot more of underclass in Mexico going on and may be it is happening in Puerto Rico too?
