I think we need to tax the wealthy, because they have all the money.

Does everyone else agree?

The wealthy are already taxed.

According to the IRS, the top 50% of wage earners pay 96.54% of the taxes.
The top 25% pay 83.88%. And the top 1% of wage earners pay 34.27%.

If taxes are raised on the wealthy, they just put more of their money in tax-free investments and the government actually gets less revenue.

Tax-free investments obviously need to be eliminated then.

If the wealthy aren't taxed, where else do you plan to get money? The poor don't have any money. That's why they are poor.

The top 50% of the wage earners paying 96% of the taxes tells me nothing. It just says that the bottom 50% don't have much money to pay with. Maybe the top 50% should pay 200% of the taxes collected? (That would be double what they paid last year -- but obviously they can afford it since the welfare rolls haven't increased at all since they started paying 96% of the taxes!)

I'm guessing UB40 doesn't know much about economics. Taxing the wealthy too much is a great way to lose your tax base. They either leave or stop working.

Tax savings. Or just tax them before they leave -- make it an "exit tax."

I know plenty about economics. I know you can't tax a rock. Rocks are like poor people. They don't have any money.

The really wealthy in this country -- like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett -- appear to have not been taxed enough. They are giving billions to "out of the USA" charities.

If the USA had taxed more, they still would have had a significant amount to donate, plus the USA would be in better fiscal shape. Instead, we don't tax enough and they take the wealth to other places.

What's even sillier is that the really wealthy wouldn't even disagree with me. I'm going to spend this whole thread arguing with people who are middle class at most.

You guys are sooooo scared that you "might" be confused with Bill Gates that you are going to fight his fights for him.

If Bill Gates leaves because we tax him versus letting him take all of his money to Africa, do we really care? We don't tax him now and he's taking all of his money to Africa so wouldn't we be ahead if we grabbed the money first?

You have totally lost me with your post. It doesn't make any sense.

As it stands now, we don't tax the wealthy and two of the top 5 (Gates and Buffett) have decided to spend their money in Africa. While that is certainly a worthwhile cause, preserving America is also a worthwhile cause and they are giving nothing towards that end.
