And, if the release were within months, Obama would have had a legitimate answer to the reporter instead of insulting him for his question.
It was an insulting question - accusing the President of being complacent and not caring about those 4 Americans - and if you had bothered to listen you would have heard a legitimate answer to the question.
Try the Daily Beast not the Guardian and from the story...
“His designation under U.S. sanctions will in no way be impacted by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action reached today,” the Treasury official said. She added that “secondary sanctions remain in place on the U.S. side,” which means that anyone or any company doing business with Soleimani can also be penalized.

We listened. BTW, reporters are not always part of the WH pack-reporter breed. They are sometimes real journalists. Yes, he could have posed the question more professionally.

Garrett asked that question because Obama never addressed the four hostages held by Iran in his version of events in the news conference. Every news outlet (left, right, and crazies) all spent considerable time discussing why the American hostages were not part of the negotiations when we held most of the cards.
It would be similar to summarizing a three week summit with Mexico but not mentioning illegal border jumping.
By the way Qasem Soleimani, is in line to be one of our biggest allies in the war with ISIS which shouldn't be surprising since he along with the Quds Force were THE sponsor of Iraq's largest Shia militias including the DAWA Party of the former prime minister and now Vice President of Iraq Nouri Kamil Mohammed Hasan al-Maliki and current prime minister Fuad Masum.
And while I'm on the topic:
In 1979, Dawa moved its headquarters to Tehran, the capital of Iran.[6] It bombed the Iraqi Embassy in Beirut in December 1981, the first of its international attacks.[7] Dawa party was thought to have been behind the bombing of the US embassy in Kuwait as well as other installations as punishment of Kuwait, America and France's military and financial assistance to Iraq in its war against Iran (see 1983 Kuwait bombings). One of those convicted for the bombing was Jamal Jafaar Mohammed, currently member of Iraq's parliament and member of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's ruling coalition.[8]
I know right. Don't ever ask OBAMA a legitimate question. Because you will not get a logical answer. Don't ever ask the jerk a negative question, in relation to himself or administration. Because we have seek the bully in action have we not.
A very straight forward question, which Obummer cannot handle.
Major stung him good. The first words out of his mouth was to backpedal. He is lost on an island without his prompters. I need to find the rest of that answer to find how far he put his foot into his mouth.
All I saw was arrogance and a bully attitude coming through when he tried to answer Majors question . He sure does not like being called on anything that is for sure . Good for Major .
